Lately, there has been a growing focus on the theft of package deliveries, which tends to happen more frequently as many people fail to collect their parcels promptly. This negligence provides thieves with more opportunities to strike.
A similar incident took place in Southlake, Texas, when a birthday gift went missing, but the twist this time was that it wasn’t taken by a human thief; instead, it was snatched by a cheeky animal enticed by the delicious contents of the package.
Unexpected Porch Pirate
On January 31, 2024, the Southlake Department of Public Safety (DPS) shared a Facebook post about a theft that took place at the home of a friend of the department, Dr. M.
That day, Dr. M’s son celebrated his 15th birthday, and a family friend had sent him a birthday gift — a cookie delivery from Tiff’s Treats. However, as no one was home at the time, the delivery person left the package at the doorstep.
“The gift arrived a bit late in the evening, likely while the family was out celebrating, so it remained unnoticed throughout the night…” they posted.
The next morning, the birthday boy eagerly rushed to unwrap his gift, only to be greeted by a disappointing sight.
“Dr. M’s son was quite surprised to find a bag of Tiff’s Treats icing and a balloon, but no cookies,” they reported.
After a brief search yielded no results regarding the identity of the sweet-toothed thief, they decided to take a look at the footage captured by their surveillance camera. What they discovered on video was both surprising and amusing.
Though the boy felt furious and let down by the turn of events, the video quickly turned his frown upside down.
The footage unmistakably revealed that the curious little possum couldn’t resist the allure of the sweets and decided to take advantage of this unexpected opportunity.
“Every so often, a different kind of greedy little poacher shows up,” quipped the DPS in their post.

While this possum can’t be excused for its mischievous act, it’s undoubtedly entertaining to witness such a cute little creature engage in a (mis)deed.
This was exactly the sentiment echoed by the team at Tiff’s Treats when they encountered the video online. They immediately felt compelled to act and ensure that justice was served.
Though they couldn’t catch the elusive possum, they decided to surprise the 15-year-old by sending the birthday gift again to his home in Southlake, Texas. This unexpected turn of events was sure to bring joy to the birthday boy, and it certainly did.
Ultimately, everyone was content – the possum had its sweet fix, and the birthday boy received his gift.
