We can all agree that being jolted awake by an odd noise in the middle of the night would make it difficult to return to our previous peaceful slumber.
This is especially accurate if that unusual sound originates from inside our own home.
This scenario unfolded for a homeowner in Santa Cruz, California. Yet, when she discovered the source of the noise, her heart was touched.
Intruder Alert

When the Santa Cruz homeowner first heard the commotion, she assumed it was simply the wind shifting objects around, allowing her to return to sleep.
However, when the noise returned, this time much louder, she recognized it was actually coming from inside her home.
Curious, she ventured to investigate, feeling utterly stunned.

Upon switching on the lights, the homeowner was dismayed to discover that her home had been utterly trashed.
Chairs were overturned, potted plants lay on the ground, and the artwork on the walls hung askew.
After surveying the chaos and assessing the situation, she spotted something adorable peeking out from behind a mirror.

The Cutest Trespasser
It turned out that a family of raccoons – a mother and her young one – were the mischief-makers.
They had gained access to the house through the dog door, allowing them to explore and wreak havoc.
When the duo realized they had been discovered, the mother darted for the exit, leaving her baby behind.

Unsure of how to coax the baby raccoon to follow its mother, the homeowner decided to enlist some help.
Before long, Dan Burton, the owner of Urban Trapping Wildlife Control, arrived on-site.
“As we walked through her home, everything was in disarray. When we arrived at the bedroom, it looked like a total mess. It was quite the sight,” Dan shared with The Dodo.

Despite taking some time to catch the energetic baby raccoon, as it constantly darted away, Dan successfully captured it without causing further disruption to the house.
“We were able to guide him outside where his mother was and then released him. I believe they were happily reunited,” he added.

In a generous gesture, Dan remained to assist the homeowner with the cleanup of the adorable mischief-makers’ mess.
The cleanup process was swift, and fortunately, there was no significant damage or injuries incurred.
“She was overjoyed that the raccoons were out and relished the thought of returning to sleep. She expressed gratitude that no one was hurt, saying, ‘Where we live, we share our space with wildlife.’ It’s something she values, recognizing their crucial role in our ecosystem,” he concluded.
Final Word
This homeowner made a wise decision by reaching out to Dan for professional assistance.
Given that raccoons can harbor rabies, an infectious disease that poses risks to humans, it’s advisable to leave their handling to trained experts.
If you discover a fluffy raccoon in your home, please maintain a safe distance and seek professional help.
