While Dyesa and her friend were heading to the doctor’s office, they noticed a little puppy in a shopping cart outside a grocery store in Phoenix, Arizona. Rushing over to assist, they found the adorable pup, who looked worried yet relieved to see them. The kind women comforted him and speculated about whether he had an owner. Conversations with store employees revealed the puppy had likely been outside since 5 a.m., and no one knew anything about his family.
Taking The Pup To A Shelter
Believing that the sweet pup had been abandoned, the women felt compelled to help. They fed the puppy, later named Herbert, and provided him with a jacket for warmth. Once he finished his meal, they contacted Maricopa County Animal Care & Control to take the dog into their care.
On November 21st, 2024, Dyesa shared a heartfelt video of the puppy on her TikTok account, narrating his story to her followers in hopes of finding him a home. The viewers were moved and distressed, feeling angry about the situation and the apparent neglect from the store employees.
However, the truth was quite different from what everyone had imagined. Just five days later, Dyesa updated her followers, revealing that Herbert wasn’t abandoned as initially thought. She commented, “The dog ran out of the house, and the owner couldn’t locate him.” It was still a mystery how the lost pup ended up in the shopping cart in the store’s parking lot. Meanwhile, the puppy’s owner had been searching everywhere, calling shelters in hopes of finding his beloved pet.
Due to the stray hold policy, Herbert hadn’t been registered in the shelter system, making it impossible for his owner to locate him. Fortunately, a friend of the owner came across Dyesa’s TikTok video, which led to the puppy’s safe return.
The Happy Reunion
Overjoyed to have found Herbert safe and sound, his owner rushed to the Phoenix shelter to reclaim him. That day, Dyesa was also visiting the shelter and had the privilege of witnessing their emotional reunion. As soon as the pup spotted his dad, he leaped for joy, smiling broadly as he looked at his owner’s face.
The puppy, whose true name is Roy, returned home to a warm welcome. Not only did his dad miss him dearly, but Roy’s doggy brother was also thrilled to have his best friend back. Roy’s owner expressed immense gratitude to Dyesa for her kindness and for sharing his story on TikTok.
