Arizona Hiker Shocked to Discover the True Identity of Animal Peering from a Crevice

Date:

While a man was hiking a narrow, slick pathway on Lookout Mountain in Phoenix, Arizona, he noticed a pair of amber eyes twinkling in a crevice. To his surprise, those sorrowful eyes belonged to a frightened and exhausted dog, blending perfectly into the environment with her dirt-colored fur. Had it not been for her striking eyes, he might have missed her entirely.

Rescuing The Exhausted Pup

As the hiker approached, the dog lifted her head, sparking hope in her heart. After comforting her, he reached out to the Arizona Humane Society (AHS) for assistance.

The AHS’s emergency animal medical technicians, Ruthie Jesus and Tracey Miiller, quickly arrived at the scene, where the hiker had stayed with the dog, now named Bright Eyes, for nearly two hours until help came. Jesus shared in a video that the hiker wanted to name her Bright Eyes because they were the first thing he noticed about her. Although still frightened, she allowed the rescuers to care for her.

The medical technicians assessed Bright Eyes and found her to be severely dehydrated, with cuts on her paws and a wound on her rear end. Despite her fear, she allowed them to pet her but froze when they tried to pull her from her hiding spot in the den.

Since Bright Eyes was too weak to walk, her rescuers carried her down the mountain, providing the comfort she needed. In their arms, her hopelessness faded, replaced by gratitude for the kind souls who came to her aid. She finally felt safe and relaxed.

The Sweet Dog Gets The Help She Needed

Nobody knows how Bright Eyes ended up on the mountain, but her rescuers were relieved to find her just in time. As Jesus expressed, “We were so elated to be able to get her. She was just so dehydrated. I think she’d probably been up there several days and that was probably her last day, and this Good Samaritan really just saved her life.”

Bright Eyes was taken to a hospital where she received fluids, antibiotics, and treatment for her stomach issues. She is estimated to be two years old, and once she fully recovers, this beautiful Arizona girl will begin her search for a loving forever home. She looks forward to a brand-new life with her future family.

Special thanks to the compassionate Good Samaritan and the dedicated animal medical technicians, Miiller and Jesus, for saving this sweet girl’s life.
