Anxious Pittie Trapped on a Bridge Overjoyed as Rescuers Arrive to Help Her

Date:

The role of an animal rescuer goes beyond mere work; it’s a mission—a lifelong commitment to saving lives, even when facing difficult situations. The team at Jacksonville ACPS in Florida truly understands this. When they received an urgent call about a stranded Pitbull on Myrtle Avenue bridge, they sprang into action without hesitation.

A group of officers who arrived on the scene quickly assessed the situation. The dog, perched precariously on the edge of the bridge, had been there for twelve long hours, just inches from falling. The only way to save her was to leash her around her neck, but the rescuers were uncertain how this frightened pup would respond.

The dog appeared to be more than just frightened—she was completely terrified. The sounds of passing cars and the gusty wind were all around her, making the situation even more precarious. Officer Cooper and his colleagues approached with caution, recognizing the gravity of the moment.

“I had to take a few breaths. I knew this was a very dangerous situation. The wind was blowing on the bridge, and every time a car passed, you could feel the bumps,” Kyle shared with The Dodo.

The rescuers called out to the pup while moving in slowly. To their surprise, she didn’t move at all—she had virtually frozen in fear, yet somehow sensed these strangers were there to help. Cooper expertly placed a leash around her neck and muzzle for safety, with his colleague assisting using a catch pole. Ultimately, the rescuers managed to pull her to safety, releasing a collective sigh of relief!

“The officers executed this rescue in an incredibly humane and gentle manner, ensuring the dog was secured and safe as quickly as possible,” Jacksonville ACPS conveyed via social media.

Joyfully, the pup, affectionately named Myrtle after the bridge she was rescued from, was finally safe! It took her time to decompress and adjust, but she soon blossomed into a loving and playful dog, eager for cuddles. She would immediately flip onto her back for belly rubs whenever she approached her caregivers. Despite being diagnosed with heartworms, Myrtle’s spirit remained unbroken.

Myrtle’s endearing and lively personality quickly shone through. A family reached out to the shelter about adopting her, and within no time, she was embraced into a loving home with wonderful owners who are committed to helping her heal from her heartworm treatment.

“It didn’t take long for her to win over the hearts of her AMAZING new family. They’re incredibly supportive, allowing her to adjust at her own pace while providing her with the extra care she needs,” the Florida shelter shared.

Today, Myrtle is living her best life, facing new challenges, enjoying her days, and basking in the love of her forever home.
