Throughout my time documenting abandoned dogs, I’ve witnessed various forms of cruelty—some people leaving them on the road, tying them up, or discarding them in a box. However, nothing has prepared me for the unimaginable act of putting puppies into a plastic container, severely restricting their ability to move or breathe. In this narrative, we will discuss a heartbreaking incident where a litter of puppies was left to suffocate in a box.
A Heartbreaking Sight

One ordinary morning, Amanda Hood found something unusual on the front lawn of her workplace. At first, she assumed it was just a donation, but as she examined the plastic container more closely, she noticed movement. Curious, Hood approached and saw that a hole had been drilled into the box, revealing steam inside. The shocking truth unfolded: there were 11 tiny puppies inside that plastic container.

No one at the workplace knew how the puppies ended up there, but it was clear that someone had abandoned them. Hood told The Dodo: They were probably there for only an hour. With just those two tiny holes for ventilation, I doubt they would have survived much longer.
A Safe Future For The Puppies

Recognizing the urgency, Hood brought the puppies to the Humane Society, where they received the necessary care. At around 5 weeks old, they appeared to be in good health and were placed in a cozy spot in the shelter to thrive. Hood noted: They eat, sleep, and love to be held. They’re the sweetest babies. Unfortunately, a challenge soon emerged; the Calhoun County Humane Society was at capacity and could no longer care for so many puppies. Consequently, for their best chance at a loving home, they were transferred to Forever Home Dog Rescue in Illinois, where they would receive foster care. Despite the obstacles ahead, I firmly believe these adorable puppies will find families that will cherish and nurture them.
