This unfortunate female dog spent her entire life on the streets, facing pain and hardship as part of her daily existence.
On the brink of despair, two compassionate individuals came to her rescue. This couple had saved numerous dogs before, yet there was something about the dog’s gaze that truly touched their hearts.
She had never experienced love, care, or even a gentle touch… but a hopeful future was now within reach.
The Story of Mija’s Rescue
Brady Oliveira and Alex Blumberg learned about the dog from a friend who saw her in poor condition on the street.
Upon their arrival to rescue her, their hearts sank at the sight of her condition. She was severely emaciated, malnourished, hairless, and practically at death’s door.
“All you could see was skin and bones. She resembled a Gollum/dinosaur-elephant hybrid,” remarked Alex and Brady to The Dodo.
Terrified of her surroundings, she finally permitted Brady to lift her after a few tense moments.
Despair was evident in her eyes.
“It seemed like she had endured this life for countless years, but she looked as though she had only a few days left,” Brady stated.
The veterinarian had grim news to deliver. She was severely malnourished and dehydrated, her blood test results were alarming, she had a severe case of sarcoptic mange, and her teeth were completely decayed.
This dog required extensive veterinary care, medication, and nurturing, but fortunately, they managed to take her in later that night and did their utmost to keep her alive.
“The vet consistently referred to her as ‘Mija’, meaning ‘my girl’. Brady often says, ‘oh, my girl’. Thus, we decided on the name Mija,” Alex shared.
An Incredible Transformation Story
The moment Brady and Alex welcomed Mija into their home, they fell head over heels for her. Their intention was to foster her until she recovered enough to find a forever home.
However, given Mija’s dire state, the journey to recovery was going to be a long one.
In the initial days, Mija appeared exhausted and lethargic, yet at last, she felt secure. “She had no concept of how to cuddle or engage in typical dog behaviors,” Alex noted.
They attempted to take her for walks on the beach, but she was so weak and fatigued that she could only manage a few steps due to her lack of energy.
After ten days, she finally managed to run a little.
“On the beach, people thought we were crazy. I burst into tears as soon as she took her first little run,” Alex recounted.
Witnessing her run for the first time after all she had endured was incredibly moving for her rescuers.
After fostering Mija for two months and pouring their love and care into her, she was finally fit enough for adoption.
Her fur had regrown, and she looked like an entirely new dog. Just look at her transformation:
“Watching her transform into a joyful dog was one of the most incredible experiences of our lives. The farewell was definitely one of the hardest goodbyes we’ve ever faced with a rescued animal. We promised her a wonderful life, and we fulfilled that promise. Mija has been ADOPTED and is cherished by her new owner!” Brady expressed in her video.
My sincerest hope is that Mija’s days are now filled solely with love and joy, as she rightfully deserves.
