It was just an ordinary day at work for Stevens County Sheriff’s Deputy Wright while patrolling a rural area in northwestern Washington when a peculiar sight caught his eye. A dog was sitting by the roadside, looking at him with a concerned expression, seemingly pleading for help. Recognizing that something was amiss, Wright rushed to her side, assuming the dog was lost and wanting to find her owner. However, he was taken aback when the dog refused to get into his vehicle, unaware that the mystery surrounding her would soon unfold before him.
The Dog Asks Wright To Follow Her
Believing that the dog’s owner might be nearby, Wright ventured into the forest to search but found no one. He returned to the anxious dog waiting by the road and, as he attempted to coax her off the road again, she unexpectedly took off up a lightly traveled, unmarked pathway. The sheriff’s office later recounted, “…[She] took off up a slightly travelled, unmarked roadway.” Following her lead, Wright discovered a small summer cabin nestled in the woods. As he began to investigate the area, he heard a call for help and turned to find an elderly man lying on the ground near the cabin.
Gita Saves Her Best Friend’s Life
Fortunately, the elderly man was Gita’s eighty-four-year-old owner who had sustained an injury and was unable to move. He had existing health issues and required regular medication. Without Gita, he might not have received the urgent help he desperately needed as he had been lying there for hours and could have faced serious consequences had he not been discovered. Gita’s courageous actions inspired many and reinforced the idea that a dog’s loyalty knows no bounds. The sheriff’s office credited the brave dog for saving her owner’s life, and I sincerely hope Gita’s beloved owner recovers quickly so they can enjoy many more years together.
