For the last decade, Conrad, a senior Beagle, had only experienced neglect and mistreatment.
He was discovered in a terrible condition at a city shelter, completely withdrawn from the world.
Although the details of his situation were unclear, it was evident from his physical state that he was severely malnourished, had rotten teeth, and was suffering from deep depression. This emaciated dog had endured a life of misery for ten long years, but everything was about to change in a matter of days!
Conrad’s Heartbreaking Journey
Conrad was moments away from euthanasia when he caught the attention of the Beagle Freedom Project team based in Los Angeles, California.
After ten arduous years of neglect, Conrad found himself as a shelter dog with little hope for a new beginning. Fortunately, the BFP team acted promptly!
In collaboration with their rescue partners, the Beagle Freedom Project brought Conrad in, prepared to transform his life dramatically.
In a video shared by the rescue, Kait, the social media manager, notes that this senior boy had a challenging life.
“This poor boy is in terrible shape. As you can see, he is extremely emaciated, with protruding hips and spine, and his skin is very dry,” Kait explains in the video.
However, with the support of the community and his dedicated caregivers, Conrad was given a fresh start in no time.
After several weeks filled with care, love, and dental surgery, Conrad began to see a light at the end of the tunnel!

Conrad’s remarkable recovery amazed everyone!
Defying the odds, this senior boy demonstrated incredible spirit and tenacity, resulting in a rapid recovery!
“We’re thrilled to share that after a month of intensive care, nutritious meals, and dental surgery, Conrad is feeling significantly better. He is rediscovering joy in life—exploring, playing, and even rummaging through the trash like a typical beagle,” the rescue stated in an update post.
But the news got even better for sweet Conrad! In the same update, the rescue revealed that after spending some cherished time in a new foster home, his dad couldn’t bear to let him go!
Rather than seeking a new home for him, Conrad’s foster parent made the beautiful decision to adopt him.
“His amazing foster dad fell in love with him and decided to ADOPT him. Conrad now has a forever family,” the rescue shared.
After a lifetime filled with neglect and abuse, Conrad will now enjoy a warm, loving home and a family who is devoted to him—a family he has been yearning for all along.
