One day, rescuers discovered approximately forty dogs chained and suffering. Among them were Annie and Layla.
The frightened little pups had no understanding that the rescue team had come to save them.
When Shira Scott Astrof, the founder of The Animal Rescue Mission located in West Hollywood, California, received a distress call about this horrific case, her heart sank.
“It shattered my heart seeing these tiny Chihuahuas with chains far too large for them,” Astrof recounted to The Dodo.
The Animal Rescue Mission successfully rescued all the dogs and brought them to safety.
Annie and Layla arrived at the shelter together in the same crate, as the rescuers knew they couldn’t be separated.
The confused canines were bewildered about their situation, and their expressions reflected their deep sorrow.
The rescue team promptly took them to the veterinarian.
Before the vet could examine the Chihuahuas, the medical team removed the chains from their necks. The small, malnourished dogs finally felt a sense of relief.
Annie and Layla nestled together for comfort.
Seeing their strong bond, Astrof was moved and wished for them to find a forever home together.
A Nurturing Foster Environment
The charming duo began their new life with their foster mom, Joy, who welcomed them with open arms.
Initially, the two pups were quite scared. Layla was particularly reluctant to let Joy get close.

During a visit, Joy expressed a desire to adopt both Annie and Layla.
Completely enchanted by the pair, she couldn’t envision her life without them, as they brought abundant joy to her world.
“So, she adopted them. They are her entire world, and they are the happiest dogs,” Astrof shared.
