Bringing a puppy into our lives means committing to support them through all circumstances.
Unfortunately, not all dog owners provide the love and care their pets need during tough times.
Peanut Butter experienced rejection at a particularly challenging moment in her life.
Her owner relinquished her to Alton, IL Animal Care and Control after she suffered from a severe dog attack. Peanut Butter’s family was unwilling to care for her injuries.
Feeling deeply traumatized, Peanut Butter was taken to Metro East Humane Society (MEHS) in Edwardsville, Illinois.
Receiving Help

The pup was brought to the veterinary clinic.
As the veterinary team evaluated her on the surgery table to identify her injuries, Peanut Butter lowered her head.
Her eyes glistened with tears. The pup was clearly in shock.
“She was traumatized and in total shock when she arrived after experiencing that event. She appeared nearly catatonic on the surgery table during her initial cleaning and examination….” Mady O’Reilly, a volunteer and foster parent at MEHS, shared with Newsweek.
The dog avoided making eye contact with the rescuers.
The veterinarian and staff were heartbroken to see Peanut Butter in such distress. They attempted to comfort her, but she remained unresponsive.
The staff treated her wounds and provided urgent medical care.
Peanut Butter’s right paw had an injury, and she suffered multiple puncture wounds around her neck, causing swelling and trapping her choke collar.
Once the rescuers took her to her kennel, they used bolt cutters to remove her choke collar.

The dog could not conceal her sadness and despair.
Rather than being safely at home with her owner, Peanut Butter often hid in a corner of her kennel. The overwhelming sounds of the shelter added to her anxiety.
Sweet Life In Foster Home

O’Reilly couldn’t bear to see Peanut Butter becoming increasingly despondent, so she decided to foster the pup.
She and her family allowed Peanut Butter time to adjust.
O’Reilly felt tears of joy as she observed Peanut Butter peacefully sleeping in her bed, wearing a happy expression.

“…She had the most adorable snores from her little gargoyle face, and I shed tears of happiness to see her so relaxed. I simply couldn’t take my eyes off her,” O’Reilly remarked.
O’Reilly remained by her side, showering Peanut Butter with affection and gaining her trust.
As Peanut Butter became more at ease, her foster mom introduced her to their other dogs. Gradually, she started to engage in playtime with her furry foster siblings and enjoyed their companionship.
Love Changes Everything

Initially, the pup was fearful of Jonathan, O’Reilly’s partner, but eventually he worked to win her affection.
Thanks to the compassionate love and continuous support of her foster family, Peanut Butter began to heal from her traumatic experiences.

Peanut Butter transformed into a vibrant pup. Her demeanor beamed with joy, and she began rolling in the grass and wagging her tail.
A family with two young children met Peanut Butter and instantly fell in love with her. They immediately knew she would be part of their family and would bring joy to their lives.

Peanut Butter exhibited kindness towards the couple’s child.
“She was incredibly gentle and sweet with their son. When he accidentally spilled a whole bag of treats on the pavement, she immediately became his biggest fan,” O’Reilly shared.
Now in her new life, Peanut Butter feels immense joy. She adores her human siblings and her furry companions. The canine has finally discovered her true happiness.
