Donna Lochmann and her team have been inspiring animal rescuers for years, finding hope in almost every harrowing situation and giving their best shot. Most of these stories end happily, which is the best part.
Recently, they received a call about a giant dog tied up on a short leash at a park. He stood there cold and soaked on a rainy day, abandoned by his previous owners. While he seemed intimidating at first, little did they know how genuinely sweet he was. Donna and her team were about to discover this!
All He Asked For Was Some Love

Donna, a volunteer with Stray Rescue of St. Louis, quickly spotted the dog from a distance. Weighing around 85 pounds, he barked loudly at anyone who approached.
“Tied up to a meter at a park and left behind on a very rainy, muddy, cold day. We received calls that he had been there for a while, unsure of what to do with himself,” the rescue noted in the post. Despite this, Donna didn’t want to give up. She approached him calmly, speaking gently—and it worked! Eventually, the pup relaxed and eagerly accepted the treats she offered.

It became evident that he was not intimidating at all; he was simply afraid and dealing with the trauma of abandonment.
“Of course he looks intimidating. He’s huge and barks at us as we approach. But the moment he realizes he’s safe and that we’re going to treat him kindly… just look at his happy big face,” the rescue expressed.
After their initial introduction, Donna and her team successfully captured him in a humane trap and loaded him into the car.

Little did he know, this was a freedom ride! The pup was transported safely to the SRSL facility, marking the beginning of a brand new journey where he quickly won everyone’s hearts.
You’re Safe Now, Buddy

They named him Eddie, which suits him perfectly. As soon as Eddie realized he was safe, his happiness was overwhelming. He showered everyone with sweet cuddles and hugs, delighted to be freed from that short leash.
For now, he will stay with his caregivers in a cozy foster home, where he will learn all about what it means to be a dog. Eventually, when he is ready, this gentle giant will be available for adoption, and the rescue will ensure that Eddie finds a suitable home—with owners who will never betray him again.
“You are safe and will never be abandoned ever again, Eddie! Whoever gets to adopt you is one lucky soul, that’s for sure,” SRSL concluded.
Good luck, Eddie! You truly deserve the best!
