Abandoned Pup in Frigid Conditions Discovers Hope Thanks to Caring New Jersey Rescuers

Date:

When the animal control officers at Monmouth County SPCA learned about a chained dog in Asbury Park, New Jersey, they quickly rushed to set him free and bring him to safety. Concerned for his well-being in the freezing cold, they were devastated upon discovering a sad senior dog named Kristoff lying on the frozen ground, tied to a fence, with tearful brown eyes pleading for help.

Receiving Love And Care

The officers wrapped Kristoff in blankets and transported him to the shelter, where he felt relieved to find caring individuals during one of the toughest times of his life. Shortly after arriving, Dr. Nicholette Runko examined him, revealing that he was so weak he couldn’t even stand.

One of the technicians assisted Dr. Runko to lift Kristoff out of the cage for an examination. After receiving a bath and loving care, Kristoff showed gratitude by nuzzling his head into his caregivers for affection. The medical team estimated him to be between eight to ten years old, and Dr. Runko expressed concern that he might not have survived much longer if left outside in the cold, as he was on the brink of developing pneumonia.

The medical team was certain that Kristoff had spent a significant amount of time outdoors due to his stiff joints that made walking difficult. They began administering antibiotics and pain relievers, showering him with affection and providing him nutritious food, which thankfully led to a remarkable improvement in his health. Kristoff regained his strength and began to walk again.

Hoping To Find A Loving Family

As time passed, Kristoff’s caregivers discovered he had limited hearing and sight, yet this did not deter him from enjoying their company. He delighted in spending time outdoors, soaking up the affection and attention he so richly deserved.

Kristoff’s gentle and affectionate nature captivated the shelter staff, who felt saddened by the love and care he had missed from his previous owner. They were determined to ensure that he would experience the best possible life, even if it were brief. “We’re really happy that we were able to rescue him. Everyone here adores him and we all want, even if the rest of his life is short, we want it to be the best short life that he can imagine,” Dr. Runko shared.

Once all necessary examinations are completed, and Kristoff’s owner agrees to surrender him, he will start the journey towards finding a forever home. I am eager to see him enjoying the retirement and love he truly deserves.
