The heart-wrenching tale of Princess highlights the fact that no dog should ever have to face homelessness.
This young pup from Florida was left tied to a random fence during freezing temperatures, cruelly abandoned by her owners. She was so cold that standing on the ground was impossible for her.
In her fright and chill, she managed to climb the fence in search of refuge. Fortunately, what she discovered was something far better!
An Unbelievable Discovery
Nichole Combee from Polk City, Florida was taken aback when she received a message about a dog found on her fence. Rushing to the location, she discovered Princess—frightened and alone.
The poor dog had climbed the fence because the ground was too cold to bear. Her name was Princess, which Nichole recognized from the collar alongside a note that read: “Take care of me!”
“Princess was discovered tied up on my fence Monday morning during one of Florida’s coldest nights,” Nichole shared in a Facebook post.
Nichole was incredulous that anyone could treat an animal so inhumanely. From the start, Princess was gentle and affectionate, leaving Nichole puzzled about the reason for her abandonment.
“I find it appalling. I cannot comprehend how one can do such a thing to any animal, especially one as loving and forgiving as this,” Nichole explained to FOX 13 Tampa Bay.
Nichole reported this incident to the Polk City Sheriff’s Office. Shortly after her rescue, officers visited her home, seeking to take Princess for evaluation pending their investigation.
Nichole found it hard to believe anyone could commit such a heinous act against an animal. Princess displayed a sweet disposition immediately, leading Nichole to wonder what could have driven someone to abandon her.
“It breaks my heart. It’s unfathomable how one can treat any animal this way, especially a creature that is so loving and forgiving,” Nichole stated to FOX 13 Tampa Bay.
She promptly reported the incident to the Polk City Sheriff’s Office. Shortly after her rescue, officers arrived at her house, requesting to take Princess for an evaluation in light of the ongoing investigation.
Nichole was assured that Princess would be returned to her within four days. Not wanting to part with the sweet dog, she ultimately decided to make Princess a permanent member of her family.
Initially, Princess faced several health challenges, including a high temperature of 104, skin issues, and other ailments. Despite everything, Nichole was determined to help.
For months, Nichole provided round-the-clock care for Princess. After extended treatment at the vet and plenty of medication, Princess began to improve.
Princess Flourishing in her Forever Home
Princess was diagnosed with chronic bladder infections that necessitate lifelong medication. However, with Nichole and her family by her side, she has never felt better.
As her fur regrew, Princess gradually regained her confidence. Despite dealing with past behavioral challenges, she thrived with the encouragement of her family, including her canine siblings, Chapo and Aly.
“Princess has made remarkable progress, as the pictures reveal. She’s a dear girl with so much love to give,” her mother shared on Facebook.
Princess has finally rediscovered what it means to be a dog.
After undergoing severe trauma, she required immense love and patience to regain her strength. Now, she feels safe and content in her new home.
Tragically, the family lost their beloved dog, Aly, who passed away at the age of four in August 2022 due to kidney failure. This loss left Nichole and the family heartbroken, while Princess and Chapo mourned for their sister.
“Chapo and Princess are doing well. I’m grateful they have each other,” Nichole expressed on Facebook.
The family needed time to process their significant loss, but Princess and Chapo were instrumental in helping them move forward.
Princess experienced a rough start in life, but she never lost hope. She taught her family the meaning of resilience, and in return, she now enjoys the love of a wonderful family that cherishes her unconditionally!
