Abandoned Dog Remains Under Tree for Days Until Compassionate Rescuers Come to Help

Date:

It always pains us to witness a vulnerable creature struggling to survive on the streets. Sadly, this is a sight we encounter on a daily basis.

This situation arose once again when kind-hearted individuals began sharing posts online about a German Shepherd that had remained stationary in Montebello, California, for several days.

The image was truly distressing, and it was only a matter of time before someone stepped in to provide assistance.

Rescue From Misery

When Isabel Gallardo, a skilled rescuer from Marinwood, California, learned about the abandoned German Shepherd under the tree in Montebello, she hurried over. However, her arrival didn’t go as smoothly as she hoped.

“When I arrived, an AC officer had just parked, and I informed her that I was there for him. We spent several hours trying to catch him, and she called for backup, but this boy said ‘not today ladies’,” Isabel shared in her Facebook post.

Fortunately, Isabel had many rescuer friends who gladly came to help. Among them was a well-known rescuer, Suzette Hall, who provided a trap that ultimately allowed them to catch the dog.

Monte, as they named the dog, was rescued from his plight, thanks to the dedication of these kind-hearted individuals. Isabel also acknowledged the other compassionate souls who were part of this rescue mission.

She expressed gratitude to “Laurie Mitchel for countless things [she] can’t enumerate, [her] invaluable friendship and rescue expertise,” and also to “Laura [Bobadilla] for acting as the eyes in Montebello.”

Ultimately, Isabel chose to take Monte home with her to provide him ongoing care.

“A Whole New Dog”

Just days following the rescue, Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy, shared uplifting news on her Facebook page.

“Before and after,” she remarked in her Facebook post. “This is how it should be, in a home and on a bed. Not abandoned lying under a tree.”

She noted that Monte had endured a lot, and they are currently “fixing” all his problems, but emphasized that they are making significant progress.

Suzette mentioned that Monte is at the Camino Pet Hospital in Irvine, California, where he was diagnosed with anemia. Following that, he received: “a medicated bath, flea treatment, deworming, bloodwork, an anti-inflammatory injection, as well as cytopoint and antibiotics.”

“After a few weeks of being flea-free and on a proper diet, we will get him neutered and do a dental,” she added. “This sweet baby will be a completely new dog.”

As evidenced, Monte is on a positive trajectory, with a promising future—all due to the compassionate actions of those who rescued him and gave him a fresh start in life.

“We love you so much, sweetheart,” concluded Suzette. “We will not abandon you as they did.”
