Bentley: The Timid Pup
Bentley was abandoned at a young age, left in a small kennel outside a shelter in Florida along with his five siblings.
The shelter staff quickly sprang into action and took in the pups, who were in dire need of loving homes.
While most of his siblings found homes rapidly, Bentley remained behind, and it was uncertain when someone would choose him.
Eventually, a loving family came forward to adopt him. The Gerards were thrilled to meet Bentley, but he initially seemed very timid and reserved.
His new mom was the first to greet him, and he gradually warmed up after meeting his dad. Though he didn’t express it immediately, Bentley was genuinely pleased to be with them.

Bentley’s Compassionate Nature
Once settled into his new home in Florida, Bentley was introduced to his companion, Piper. They quickly formed a strong bond, although Bentley sometimes felt jealous when Piper received attention.
Piper, however, was blind, deaf, and suffering from dementia, which meant he often required extra care, and Bentley came to understand this over time.
He grew increasingly attuned to Piper’s needs and showed great concern for both Piper and his new parents, especially his mom. If anything happened to her, Bentley would become noticeably distressed.
On one particularly concerning day, when she fell ill, Bentley became so upset that he actually vomited and insisted on staying close to her.
Gerard remarked: His affection for her is unparalleled. He sensed her illness, and it affected him.
The family takes great pride in Bentley’s intelligence, having witnessed it on numerous occasions.
He has mastered at least 25 to 30 commands and has even figured out how to open doors by himself.
Despite his skills, Bentley remains shy around other dogs and typically keeps his distance unless it’s Piper.
The Gerards feel incredibly fortunate to have Bentley, who has found a loving family that truly cherishes him.
