Abandoned Dog Cowers on a Small Blanket in Frigid Cold Until Rescuer Arrives

Date:

Clydis had it all: a warm home, loving family, and treats for being a good boy! But, in an instant, everything changed. Instead of snuggling with his owners, he found himself in a Kansas park during a harsh winter after getting lost. The below-freezing temperatures were brutal, and his short coat offered little protection.

Fortunately, a kind passerby noticed his plight and took action. Joni, a Kansas resident, promptly contacted Wichita Animal Action League after spotting Clydis roaming the park. Tess Goodman was the first to respond, quickly arriving only to find Clydis shivering on a small blue blanket someone had left for him. Despite his efforts to stay warm, it was nearly impossible in such frigid conditions.

Tess approached Clydis several times, but he was too frightened to let anyone close, running deeper into the woods at the sound of a human voice. So, Tess decided to try a different strategy: she set up a large dog house nearby, filled with food and water. Soon enough, a hungry Clydis entered the house and began to eat.

This back-and-forth continued until Tess finally managed to get close to Clydis. She chose to sit by his blanket for as long as needed, ensuring she didn’t frighten him away, and it worked! With treats in hand and a gentle presence, Clydis eventually approached her, establishing contact. The two spent some time just being next to each other until Tess felt he was relaxed enough to leash.

Finally, after some growling and attempts to escape, Tess managed to secure Clydis and load him into the car. Relief flooded over her, knowing he likely wouldn’t survive another night in the freezing temperatures.

Finally, He’s Safe

The moment Clydis entered the car, he warmed up to Tess and her colleague, leaning his head against them and showering them with kisses as if he sensed that everything would be okay from then on. Apart from dehydration, his condition was surprisingly good, and a microchip made it easy for rescuers to locate his family.

“Clydis was microchipped, which not only made it easy to find his owners, but prevented him from having to go to the shelter,” WAAL wrote on Facebook.

It turned out that Clydis had escaped while his family was in the process of moving. His unintended adventure led him miles away from home without food, water, or shelter. Thankfully, he’s now safe and back with his family.

“Clydis was returned to a grateful family who had been moving out of an apartment to a new house when Clydis escaped,” the Kansas rescue added.

His owners were overjoyed to have him back, welcoming him with open arms and hoping this would be his last escape.
Good luck, Clydis. Welcome home!
