There is nothing more heartbreaking than witnessing a dog subjected to the harsh treatment of its owner, primarily used for breeding and then abandoned when no longer deemed valuable. More often than not, these dogs are severely mistreated and abused. Individuals who engage in such behavior do not deserve to have pets and must be held accountable for their actions.
In this story, we’ll share the journey of a dog named Ducky, who faced abandonment for the same reasons, yet circumstances spared her from a life of exploitation.
Ducky’s Background

Colin met Ducky through the Lil Rascals Dog Rescue in Florida and fell in love with her instantly. She volunteered as Ducky’s foster mom while searching for her forever home. The shelter staff informed Colin that Ducky had come from a family who intended to breed her but abandoned her upon discovering her medical issues.
In an interview with GeoBeats Animals, Colin shared, They just don’t wanna bother with it anymore due to some medical complications she was experiencing, which we’ve addressed since she’s been with us.

Colin took Ducky into her home, where she provided the care and attention needed to improve Ducky’s quality of life. She identified multiple health issues, including a skin infection, an eye infection, and a condition that caused her eyelids to turn inward, causing her a lot of discomfort. Colin wasted no time in helping Ducky heal and stayed by her side throughout the entire process.
Ducky Is Just A Ray Of Sunshine

Throughout her time in Colin’s Florida home, Ducky quickly adapted and felt at ease with everyone. Colin noted, I think she right off the bat knew that I was here to help protect her and keep her safe. Ducky also befriended Mako, Colin’s first and only foster failure. The two enjoyed playing together and shared a strong bond. However, Kona, the second dog in the household, was initially apprehensive about playing with Ducky, feeling a bit overshadowed.

While Ducky and Mako had a playful connection, Kona was more reserved and did not engage as actively with Ducky. Their interactions were harmonious, although they didn’t play as much together. When it was time for Ducky to move to her forever home, Colin found it difficult to say goodbye after forming a bond with this lovely dog. She expressed, I speak for all foster parents when I say that one thing we all wish they knew is that they’re not being abandoned again. Despite missing Ducky, Colin takes comfort in knowing that she is now in a loving family.
