Only love possesses the ability to transform and mend the most injured and frightened hearts.
Sandy, a dog rescued from a shelter, was in dire need of human affection, yet her profound fear prevented her from embracing love.
This canine, found as a stray on the streets of South Chicago, bore many scars and faced serious health challenges.
The kind-hearted folks at One Tail At A Time took Sandy into their care, resolute in helping her conquer her fears and discover the beauty of life.
A Kind Human Offers Her a Chance

Not long after, a compassionate individual named Elie signed up to foster dogs with the Chicago rescue and immediately connected with Sandy.
The gentle pup made a lasting impression on her.
Though sweet and affectionate, Sandy was too fearful to trust humans and accept their love.
“I’d never encountered a dog that was so withdrawn and scared yet so clearly longing for love,” Elie shared with GeoBeats Animals.
Determined to help, Elie began fostering Sandy.
As soon as she placed the pup in her car, Sandy curled up tightly, trying to make herself as small as possible.
Upon arriving at Elie’s house, Sandy was frozen in fear, prompting her foster mom to carry her out of the vehicle.
Fostering Sandy proved to be an eye-opening experience for Elie. Sandy was terrified of everything.

“In the initial days, every time we ventured out, she would see a street sign and shrink in fear. A simple bench looked like the scariest thing in the world to her,” Elie explained.
Elie was dedicated to assisting Sandy in overcoming her fears, helping her embrace life again. She showered Sandy with affection and support.
Discovering Her Safe Haven

Gradually, Sandy began to find her footing in the foster home.
She formed a friendship with Ziggy, Elie’s other dog, and together, they enjoyed playtime and companionship.
As days turned into weeks, Sandy’s confidence grew, and she began to radiate joy. She started reaching out for cuddles and affection from Elie.
Realizing that she had created a safe haven for Sandy, Elie deepened their bond.

Elie describes Sandy as a gentle soul that deeply desires human affection.
“She longs to give and receive love, but she is also quite sensitive. When things occur, it profoundly impacts her. She thrives when surrounded by safety but is deeply influenced by her environment,” Elie observed.
After three months of fostering, Elie recognized that Sandy was meant to be with her, and she officially adopted her.

Sandy frequently shares delightful snapshots of her life in her forever home on her Instagram account. The spirited dog enjoys going for walks with her mom and her brother, Ziggy.
The love from her mom has brought immense joy into Sandy’s life. She now lives each day to the fullest, unable to stop smiling.
