With the vast number of dog breeds present today, it can be quite challenging to keep track of them all.
Many individuals who decide to adopt a dog have specific breed preferences. Some might prefer the loyalty of German Shepherds, while others might opt for the charm of tiny Chihuahuas, and that’s perfectly fine.
But have you ever pondered what it would be like to have an enormous dog in your home? Personally, I haven’t, but I’m always keen on discovering more.
In this article, we’ll delve into the experiences of a family who opened up about their life with a giant Caucasian Mountain Dog.
Yogi Bear Is Not Just Any Dog

Upon first sight of Yogi Bear, most people are struck by his bear-like appearance.
However, he’s more unique than that. Yogi Bear is a Caucasian Mountain Dog, known primarily for their guarding instincts.
These dogs are sometimes trained to assist law enforcement in high-security environments. Unfortunately, due to their distinctiveness, they are quite rare in the United States.
For a family from Boston, however, Yogi Bear is a cherished member of the family, as well as one of the most lovable dogs imaginable.

Yogi was adopted from abroad and has been part of his new family ever since. His owner, Laura, loves sharing updates about his intriguing life.
Through their videos, Yogi Bear showcases typical dog behavior while being incredibly sweet.
Yogi’s Exceptional Protective Instincts

In an interview with Bored Panda, Laura shared her experiences with Yogi.
She mentioned: He was charming as a puppy and comes from an impressive lineage of champion dogs, so we expected him to grow into a beauty, but we never anticipated this level of stunning!
He was already substantial as a puppy; at 10 weeks, he weighed 31 lbs and by 3.5 months, he was 50.5 lbs.
Throughout his growth, he continued to surprise the family with his size. They were constantly amazed by his development.
To facilitate Yogi’s socialization with other dogs, the family became part of a local dog community in Boston, allowing him to interact and learn proper behavior with other dogs.

As he matured, other dogs often found his size intimidating, which sometimes led to aggressive behavior out of fear. However, Yogi remained calm and successfully dissuaded their attempts.
Thanks to his excellent training, he rarely caused any trouble and exhibited remarkable patience with other dogs.
Eventually, the family relocated to a new neighborhood, raising their curiosity about how Yogi would adapt in this new environment.
One noticeable outcome was the attention Yogi received. Laura noted: Whenever we take Yogi for a walk, people stop to ask questions and take photos… usually from a distance!
There have been times when vehicles have stopped, with drivers nervously inquiring whether we were walking a bear or lion.
Yogi Is Incredibly Kind and Gentle

Yogi enjoys looking after their home, ensuring safety, and engaging in play with his family.
He has a special bond with the children in the house and shows extra affection for Laura’s newborn son, Lehan.
Laura recounted: When we introduced Yogi to Lehan, we took it slow and cautious, and the moment Yogi sniffed his toes, he fell in love.
He understood that his role was to protect that baby at all costs.
Tragically, the family faced an unimaginable loss when Lehan passed away unexpectedly.
This heartbreaking event left the family in profound grief for an extended period. Despite his protective nature, Yogi adored Lehan and struggled with the sorrow of his passing.

Confused and heartbroken, he would check Lehan’s crib, hoping to find him there. This was truly gut-wrenching.
In spite of this trauma, Yogi remained a source of support for the family, comforting them through their ordeal. He demonstrated his gentle nature and unwavering desire to protect his loved ones.
When discussing the Caucasian Mountain Dog breed, Laura highlighted the need for comprehensive research before making a commitment to adopt one.
She pointed out that while owning one may come with challenges, dedicating time and effort would yield the most wonderful furry companion anyone could wish for.
