While a family was taking photos on a bridge in Dallas, Texas, they stumbled upon a small abandoned furry creature. Their hearts ached as they discovered a scared and underweight puppy shivering beneath the bridge.
They promptly reached out to Dallas Dog – Rescue.Rehab.Reform, informing them of the puppy in urgent need of assistance.
Kerry, the rescuer, rushed to the bridge to save the puppy. Upon his arrival, he searched tirelessly for her.
His heart sank at the sight of the frail, tiny puppy. It became evident why she had been so hard to find initially.
The Distrustful Puppy Doesn’t Let Kerry Approach Her
As soon as she spotted him, she bolted in the opposite direction. Kerry assured her that he would help and that he would never abandon her like her previous owners did. Having lost trust in people, the puppy barked and snapped at Kerry.
Kerry could only fathom how long she had been wandering the area.
“…She was obviously very exhausted. And I just kind of waited her out and took my time with her,” Kerry shared with The Dodo.
Finding a styrofoam cup in the grass, Kerry used it as a barrier to prevent bites. He calmly spoke to her while gently approaching and finally scooped her up.
Once he held her in his arms, her demeanor shifted entirely. In that moment, the puppy realized Kerry was there to save her.
Kerry cradled her like a newborn and drove her to his car. Gradually, she began to feel secure. While in the car, he fed her, and the starving puppy eagerly devoured the food.
All She Needed Was Love
He took her home and cared for her diligently. He placed her in a crate while continuously speaking to her. Once he opened the crate and set her on the couch, everything changed.
“Once I took her out of her crate and had some one-on-one time with her in the house, she opened up, felt safe, and that’s when she began to let her guard down, relax, and transform into a loving dog,” Kerry reflected.
While sitting on the couch, she gazed at Kerry. Her eyes sparkled with love and appreciation.
She craved human affection. As Kerry cuddled her, she wagged her tail and leaned in, planting a sweet kiss on him. The puppy was genuinely affectionate.
“She would roll over for tummy rubs and hop onto my lap,” he added.
Kerry was confident that such a loving puppy would soon find a forever home.
The rescue team began looking for the ideal family for the puppy. They aimed to ensure she would forget her past and enjoy a bright future with a loving family.
The Puppy’s Dream Life
Not long after, the adorable puppy found a wonderful home.
She no longer resembled the scared pup Kerry discovered under the bridge. She had gained weight and blossomed into a beautiful little princess.
Her family cherishes her and feels grateful to have her in their lives. They named her Bailey.
