A Dog Spent Over 380 Days at a Shelter Before Finding a New Home

Date:

Witnessing a dog find its forever home after a life spent in confinement is an incredible moment.

But what if the roles were reversed?

Roxy, an adorable Staffordshire Terrier mix, has faced significant challenges. Rather than enjoying her golden years in a loving home, Roxy has had to confront the tough reality of abandonment once more.

Now, she endures countless days being overlooked by potential adopters visiting her shelter friends.

Roxy fully understands the plight of a shelter dog. Born at the Valley Animal Center in Fresno, California, she shared her early days with seven littermates.

Since her puppyhood, this spirited girl has been a total sweetheart. She eventually found her forever home, only to face a heartbreaking twist.

Just a year after being adopted, Roxy was returned to the shelter.

One compassionate shelter volunteer, Jackie, shared a heartbreaking video of Roxy looking completely dejected behind the bars. Unfortunately, she was returned because her previous owners struggled to integrate her with their livestock.

“She was adopted at a young age, but was sadly returned due to her issues with livestock,” Jackie noted in her TikTok post.

Currently, Roxy has been waiting at the shelter for over 380 days, hoping to meet a special someone who will commit to her for life.

“She’s The Whole Package”

Despite her hardships, Roxy clings to hope that someone wonderful will come along.

What a beautiful gift that would be!

For now, the shelter team ensures she receives excellent care, as this sweet girl has endured so much over the past year.

She has traded a spacious yard for a small kennel. And while the staff takes her out for regular walks, it doesn’t compare to the freedom she used to have.

The shelter staff describes Roxy as an incredible dog, full of joy and enthusiasm. Once she recovers fully, she’s sure to become a perfect companion again—but her ideal home requirements are slightly different this time.

The team believes Roxy will thrive best as the only pet in her future home, given her challenging previous experience.

“A household with children older than 5 would suit her perfectly. She needs to be the sole pet, as she does not get along with other animals. Trust us; she is all the pet you’ll ever need—playful and affectionate,” the VAC team shared on Facebook.

Once she adapts to a new environment, it’s certain she’ll integrate well with other animals—it will just take some time!

Roxy is already honing her social and obedience skills at the shelter. Thanks to skilled dog trainers, she is overcoming barriers and showcasing her remarkable personality!

Looking for Her Perfect Family

For now, Roxy is on her journey to recovery, with her team doing everything possible to expedite her progress.

She remains confined within those four walls but is definitely eager to start an exciting new chapter.

“Roxy is looking for a loving family ready to shower her with affection and kisses,” her caretakers expressed.

This time, may it be forever!
