All Winnie ever desired was a companion.
Unfortunately, because of her disability, her only interactions were fleeting daycare visits with other dogs, leaving her without lasting friendships.
Though she maintained a cheerful disposition, there was always a small piece missing from her life… until Marley arrived and transformed everything!
Challenges Since Puppyhood
Winnie entered Emily’s life as a rescued pup. She had endured a serious back injury as a young dog, leading to partial disability in her legs.
Emily spotted her at the vet and decided to foster Winnie until a permanent family could be found. Little did she realize that Winnie’s true home was right there with her! In just a few months, their bond blossomed, resulting in Winnie becoming a beloved foster fail.
For a while, Winnie managed to move around with a charming wobbly gait, but one day she simply couldn’t get up anymore.
“When I started fostering Winnie, she could move around with her adorable little wobbly walk. Then one day, she sat down and simply didn’t rise. That’s where our journey to restore her mobility began,” Emily shared on Instagram.
Through Emily’s unwavering dedication, Winnie received her very first wheelchair. The duo invested months in physical therapy, water workouts, and simply acclimating to the new lifestyle with a wheelchair.
However, one crucial aspect was absent – Winnie lacked furry companions! Despite her friendly demeanor, forming lasting relationships with other dogs was challenging due to her condition.
But, everything changed one day!
When her mom introduced Marley to their home for fostering, an instant bond formed between the two. Right then, Emily realized this was not just a temporary arrangement.
Meet the Soulmate, Marley
Winnie and Marley quickly became inseparable friends. It felt as if they had always known one another. More importantly, Marley was completely unfazed by Winnie’s wheelchair.
The pair enjoyed games of tug of war, ran side by side, and spent every moment together. Marley brought immense joy and happiness into Winnie’s life, fulfilling her dream of companionship.
When necessary, she took on the role of an older sister, assisting Winnie to move and giving her a push when needed. Recently, their mom shared a touching video of Marley helping Winnie escape from a sand trap—it melted everyone’s hearts.
“A true friend is always there to lift you up when you’re down! Or to pull you out from a sand trap. Whatever is needed most,” Emily said.
Although she was originally supposed to be a foster dog and already had an adopter lined up in New Jersey, it became clear that separating her from her new sister was not an option. The prospective adopter, understanding their bond, chose to withdraw her application.
“Marley’s adoptive mom reached out to me expressing that she couldn’t bear to part them. Despite her heartache, she knew she couldn’t break their special connection! So, Winnie got a new sibling, and I genuinely believe they are soul sisters,” Emily shared on Instagram.
And so, Emily found herself with two foster fails, perfectly suited to her life.
Now, the two are more joyful than ever, crafting memorable adventures each day in their Mississippi home.
It’s clear that neither Marley nor Winnie can envision life without one another anymore. They are true soulmates, the best of friends, and the quintessential definition of sisterhood.
