It’s disheartening to consider the heartache faced by some dogs who realize their owners don’t love them as they truly should.
Due to the neglect from their owners, these dogs often feel sad and are unable to fully enjoy life.
One such dog, Willie, deserved all the affection in the world, yet his owners failed to provide it, leading them to surrender him to the Humane Educational Society in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Feeling abandoned and lonely, Willie longed for genuine love from someone special.
A Kind Soul Finds Hank
In 2018, Jennifer was in search of a dog after her beloved Basset Hound had passed away.
While watching a local news segment that featured pets available for adoption, she noticed a charming little dog named Willie with tiny legs that instantly captured her heart.
Jennifer fell head over heels and decided to adopt the lovable pup from the shelter in Tennessee.
She renamed him Hank, believing it suited him better.
While Jennifer isn’t sure what Hank’s past entailed, she suspects he endured some form of abuse.
“Hank displayed signs of having been mistreated when I first adopted him. It took quite a while for him to stop rolling over on his back and squealing or bracing himself when I simply pointed my finger saying, ‘No,’” Jennifer shared in a comment on Instagram.
With lots of love and support, Jennifer helped Hank overcome his traumatic history. Once he understood that his new mother truly cared for him, he began to trust her.
Hank blossomed into a joyful pup, his tail always wagging with happiness. Jennifer became his favorite human, and together they formed an unbreakable bond.
Hank’s Charming Character
This delightful pup spreads joy throughout his household.
“He has a sense of humor. You can see that by the way he smiles as he runs around, doing silly things to get us to laugh,” Jennifer shared with GeoBeats Animals.
Interestingly, Hank dislikes receiving kisses and barks every time his mom tries to shower him with affection.
However, he delights in giving his mom sweet kisses whenever she approaches him.
Hank has also captured the heart of Penny, a lovely pup who lives just across the street. He loves to sit on the couch like a human, gazing out the window at her house.
Whenever he spots her walking towards their sidewalk, Hank eagerly dashes outside to shower her with affection.
On some occasions, he even dozes off on the couch while waiting for her to step out of her house. Hank’s canine sibling, Gunther, often joined him, and they would both wait for Penny together.
Living His Best Life
Throughout his journey of healing, Jennifer remained by Hank’s side, nurturing him as he revealed his vibrant personality more and more.
“Witnessing him flourish into the vibrant personality he is now is an experience unlike any other. It pains me to think he spent the first years of his life unhappy, as he deserves so much better. He is undoubtedly the most remarkable creature I’ve ever known,” she stated.
After losing her dear pup Gunther, Jennifer decided to adopt another shelter dog named Bo.
Hank and Bo formed a loving friendship, enjoying their lives together in a forever home filled with love. They truly are living their best lives.
