Family Stunned to Discover Their Paralyzed Dog Could Walk Again

Date:

Every dog owner dreads witnessing their beloved pet in pain. Unfortunately, as our dogs grow older, many face discomfort and various health challenges.

For North Carolina residents Christiana Lovelace and her husband, Monte, this became their reality a few years back.

Their nine-year-old Silver Labrador, Bo, was diagnosed with intervertebral disc disease, resulting in paralysis. The family did everything possible to alleviate Bo’s suffering, but their hopes dwindled until a miraculous turn of events occurred!

The Moment Of Pure Happiness

Bo endured this painful condition, which can vary from mild discomfort to complete paralysis. Tragically, he was unable to move at all.

In the fall of 2022, he suffered a ruptured disc in his back, followed by two more in his neck, leading to total paralysis.

After exploring many treatment avenues, including rehabilitation and acupuncture, the family discovered a groundbreaking solution: steroid therapy. Thanks to this treatment, Bo began to show significant improvement and even took his first steps again!

@christiana.lovelace I can’t believe we’ve finally made it this far… after 3 ruptured discs, 2 surgeries (4&3 if you count mine) and I honestly thought we might have to say goodbye to him by now – but he’s still here! We’ve also ruined our furniture and at least 3 rugs. #dog #dogsoftiktok #dog #pets #petsoftiktok #petstory #ivdd #ivddrecovery ♬ Eye of the Tiger – Survivor

For this North Carolina family, witnessing Bo move once more was nothing short of a joyous occasion.

“I can’t believe we finally made it this far…after three ruptured discs, 2 surgeries and I honestly thought we might have to say goodbye to him by now – but he’s still trucking,” Christina shared in a TikTok post.

Following countless sleepless nights, they never imagined their nine-year-old boy would walk again. Yet, it happened – and both Bo and his humans could not be more thrilled!

Sometimes, He Forgets That He Can Do It

After just a few weeks on treatment, Bo regained the ability to walk independently. His days are now filled with moments of lying in bed, with snuggles from his mom and dad being the highlight. He can now stand on his own and even initiate snuggles!

Due to his extended paralysis, Bo occasionally forgets he can walk.

@christiana.lovelace Replying to @lindseycagley Bo is walking again – He looks like a drunken toddler but he’s walking. 👏 👏 #ivdd #dogs #dogsoftiktok #pets #petsoftiktok ♬ original sound – Christiana | Team V Berlin2024

“My dog was paralyzed for so long that he still forgets he can walk. He’ll lay there and whine until I remind him he can walk,” Christina expressed.

Bo dozes off in his bed, and upon waking, he often refuses to move until his pawrents encourage him.

However, Monte and Christiana have a wonderful solution!

Bo’s dad crafted a custom cart for him, allowing Bo to relax and engage in his rehabilitation. When Bo is reluctant to walk, Monte ensures his dog enjoys a pleasant ride in the cart, which Bo adores!

Christiana has been sharing updates on Bo’s journey through her official TikTok account. Throughout his recovery, countless individuals have rallied behind this lovable Lab, and now he has a whole community cheering him on.

Despite reaching his golden years, I have every confidence that Bo still has many joyful days and adventures ahead!
