All that a sweet pup named Kelly ever wished for was affection, but what she received instead was abandonment.
Kelly’s prior owner was a harsh breeder who exploited her for profit and discarded her when she was no longer deemed useful.
Heartbroken and hungry, the pup wandered the streets in search of kindness and companionship.
As she dragged her paws down the desolate streets, the pup clung to the hope that someone would see her and extend a hand of help.
Despite the mistreatment she endured, Kelly held on to her belief that kind humans were out there.
Kelly’s Arrival at the Shelter
The rescuers at the Humane Society of Broward County, located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, quickly came to her aid upon spotting her on the streets.
Their hearts shattered when they realized how thin and neglected the pup had become.
Upon her arrival at the shelter, Kelly won over the staff with her loving nature. The pup craved affection and relished every cuddle from her new companions.
“Kelly is an absolute love bug who thrives on human interaction and affection. She has a silly side and loves playing with chew toys and going for walks,” stated Susan Leonti, the digital marketing specialist at the Humane Society of Broward County, in an interview with Newsweek.
The staff was eager to help Kelly find a forever home swiftly. After all she had endured, her shelter friends understood that she needed to experience genuine happiness in a loving home.
The shelter shared a video on social media that narrated her poignant past. The footage featured a hopeful pup wagging her tail while standing in her kennel.
A lovely couple, in search of their first dog together, saw the video and immediately fell for Kelly.
The next day, they went to the shelter in Florida, their hearts stolen by Kelly, eager to take her home.
The Fleeting Joy
Believing their girl had finally found happiness, the shelter team felt thrilled.
On the day Kelly was adopted, her excitement was palpable. Her face radiated joy as she bid farewell to her shelter friends.
Her new family aimed to make her feel cherished and shower her with love, but unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to last.
Shortly after taking Kelly home, the couple discovered that one of them had a dog allergy. Regrettably, the couple had no choice but to return the pup to the shelter.
Kelly experienced a taste of happiness, only to have it snatched away.
After returning to the confines of her kennel once more, the pup felt utterly heartbroken.
“Since coming back, Kelly has worn a sorrowful and anxious expression. When we pass her kennel, she cries out and looks at us with a desperate gaze. It’s truly heartbreaking to witness,” Leonti shared.
Although she adores her shelter companions and values their care, Kelly longs for her own humans.
The pup yearns to experience genuine love for the first time in her life.
