Many dogs face heartbreak at least once in their lives, often when their owners abandon them. While some people surrender unwanted animals to shelters, others are too cruel to even do that, leaving them in appalling conditions to fend for themselves. This story highlights a pit bull who was callously discarded in a trash dumpster.
A Very Cruel Fate
While performing her usual chores one day, a woman from Kansas headed outside to take out the trash. She heard a strange noise emanating from the dumpster and, upon investigating, was shocked to discover a dog trapped inside a wire kennel with no escape.
She quickly reached out for assistance from Wichita Animal Action League, who promptly arrived to rescue the dog. The poor animal was taken to a veterinary clinic due to starvation and possible infections. While the vets provided him with exceptional care, he was eventually transferred to new foster parents, Lee and Darcy.
Bowie’s So Happy Now
During his time with Lee and Darcy, Bowie gained a considerable amount of weight and appeared much healthier; however, he had a tendency to eat his food too quickly, prompting his fosters to devise a solution by using food puzzles.
One of the animal rescuers, Sarah Coffman, was eager to foster Bowie but knew he was going to another home for the time being. She expressed to The Dodo: I was trying to convince my husband that we needed to foster Bowie. And I was really, really reluctant to take Bowie to Connie’s house to foster. Surprisingly, upon arrival, she was impressed by Connie’s warm welcome for Bowie.
Bowie’s New Foster Parents
Connie’s affection for Bowie was evident almost immediately; the joy and love radiating from him took everyone by surprise. His new fosters regularly took him on walks, where he discovered the exhilarating freedom of running. Connie noted, When he first started running, it was like a baby learning to walk. The more he did it, the more he enjoyed it. They also loved treating him to pup cones at Andy’s Frozen Custard, making his new life even sweeter.
With his spirit unbroken, Bowie embraced his new life, thriving under his fosters’ care. Lee and Darcy take great pride in how far Bowie has come; he looks like a completely transformed dog now. We wish him the best on his journey ahead.
