Dogs are truly magnificent creatures, and I often struggle to comprehend how some individuals can adopt them only to abandon them at a shelter due to minor issues.
Even more disheartening is when some owners request the euthanasia of the dog, despite it being utterly unjustifiable.
In one such case, a dog was deemed ‘aggressive’ by his owners, who decided to take him to the vet for euthanasia. The vet, however, was not on board with this and sought a better solution.
The Story of Horace
The vet was committed to finding a new home for Horace, and he succeeded in doing so. Unfortunately, the new family was bothered by his behavior.
They reported that he was aggressive towards other dogs, forcing them to surrender him. Given his blindness, he likely did not understand how to interact with other dogs and may have been scared of them.
It was suspected that he had to compete for food in his previous living situation, leaving him with numerous scars, likely resulting in his fear of other dogs.
However, everything would take a turn for the better for Horace in the following days. After being returned to a shelter, a compassionate woman came forward to offer him a chance.
She went through a three-day trial period to see how well Horace would adapt, and they ended up getting along quite well. This indicated that he had finally discovered his forever home.
Horace adjusted rapidly to his new environment. Despite being blind, he learned to navigate comfortably.
He felt secure in the presence of his new owner, who took great care to ensure he was never around other dogs to avoid any stress.
Horace’s New Friends
Interestingly, Horace has formed a bond with his owner’s snakes, Tim and Walter, and they seem to get along wonderfully. They assist him in moving around and provide him companionship.
Much like how pets react to the word ‘treats,’ Horace has a strong reaction to the terms ‘grandma’ and ‘grandpa.’
These two are his absolute favorites, and he gets incredibly excited when they visit.
When his owner says those words, he bolts to the door in eager anticipation, even recognizing the sound of their car.
He can distinguish which of them is arriving purely by sound, showcasing his intelligence.
Shortly after being welcomed into this new home, Horace was diagnosed with epilepsy, necessitating regular medications to manage his symptoms.
Despite enduring various challenges, he always has his favorite person by his side.
His owner is truly extraordinary, and Horace’s affection for her is evident. Their bond is remarkable.
