80-Pound Dog Waiting Over 200 Days for a Home Due to His ‘Scary and Intimidating’ Reputation

Date:

If only shelter dogs could express themselves, I believe they would tell visitors, “I’m just a fun-loving pup waiting to be your forever friend!”

Or perhaps, “Don’t be scared… all I’m dreaming of is companionship.”

Sadly, for many dogs, their appearance is the only voice they have, much like a Pittie from Connecticut named Biggie. With his cropped ears and hefty 80-pound frame, Biggie has been waiting for over 200 days to find his forever home.

Regrettably, that day has yet to arrive.

From Joyful to Dejected in Just a Few Months

Prior to his arrival at Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter in Branford, Connecticut, Biggie had spent time in various shelters. Despite the hardships, he has always remained hopeful and spirited.

However, as the days turned into months, his situation sadly changed.

Biggie became one of the most ignored dogs due to his appearance. His solid physique and cropped ears have made many potential adopters shy away from him.

“A visitor at the shelter recently said they were searching for a cheerful pit bull, and we eagerly recommended Biggie. However, they mentioned his ears looked intimidating,” shared the rescue in a Facebook post.

According to the shelter director, Laura, and the caring staff, Biggie is one of those dogs that rushes to the front to greet newcomers. But, sadly, he is now showing signs of depression.

“Biggie seems to be getting depressed and doesn’t even budge when you enter the dog area. We are really hoping to find someone who can bring back his joy,” wrote his caretakers.

Each time he returns from outings or walks, he appears completely defeated, aware that he must return to his kennel. He is gradually losing faith that anyone will come to adopt him.

Hope Remains

Throughout his lengthy stay at the shelter, spanning over 200 days, Biggie has proven to be anything but frightening!

He’s truly a loving companion who adores cuddling. The shelter team notes that he also enjoys hiking and going for car rides. But be warned, during these “little adventures,” the tradition of the pup cup is non-negotiable!

Despite his large size, Biggie enjoys low-energy activities with individuals of all ages. He’s interacted with numerous children, dogs, and cats at the shelter.

However, the shelter believes that the best home for Biggie would be as the only pet. This environment would provide him the tranquility he needs to adjust and live a life free from stress.

The shelter staff is encouraging everyone to spread the word about Biggie’s story.

Only by raising awareness can we help overlooked shelter dogs like Biggie and possibly find someone who won’t hesitate to adopt a dog that may not seem “appealing” at first glance.

Given the right chance, I’m absolutely convinced that Biggie would become an incredible companion!
Before his descent into sadness, he was a playful, lively, and loving dog – and with the right care, there’s no doubt he’ll rediscover that joy once more.

For now, all he needs is a chance, along with a touch of patience!
