The holiday season is a truly magical time filled with twinkling lights and joyous gatherings with friends and family. Above all, it is a time to make dreams come true.
However, for those who are alone and without the warmth of loved ones, this season can amplify feelings of loneliness and despair.
Consider the heartbreaking story of a dog who spent more than 200 days in a shelter, overlooked and forgotten.
This brings us to Laguna, a three-year-old Labrador and American Staffordshire terrier mix, who has been desperately seeking a cozy home. Seeing Santa as her final hope, she reached out for help.
She penned a touching letter to Santa, yearning for a loving family to call her own.
The Most Heart-Wrenching “Wish List”
Upon her arrival at Haseyas New Beginning Animal Rescue in Rayne, Louisiana, Laguna was a stunning three-year-old pup. In decent health, everyone believed it wouldn’t be long until she found her forever home.
Nearly 200 days later, as the holiday season approaches, Laguna is still confined to her kennel, unable to celebrate Christmas or the New Year with anyone.
The representative from Haseyas New Beginning, Kelli Briscoe, expressed that no one deserves a home more than sweet Laguna.
“Laguna’s perfect family would be one that is active, with children and possibly another friendly dog who loves to play,” Kelli shared with Newsweek. “She has endless energy and enjoys playing outside with her dog companions. Laguna is highly intelligent and would benefit from someone willing to challenge her and teach her new skills.”
Despite her friendly demeanor, Laguna has yet to catch anyone’s eye since her arrival at the shelter. “Not even a glance,” stated Kelli.
Yet, Laguna has remained hopeful for her greatest wish. When she overheard the staff at the shelter mentioning a jolly man with a white beard who grants wishes, she wasted no time in grabbing a pen and paper.
The letter she sent to Santa is surely one of the most heartbreaking messages this Christmas.
The letter reads:
Hi Santa,
I heard about you from my volunteer friends, and they told me you can help find forever homes for us doggies, so I am really hoping you can help me find one.
Don’t get me wrong, Santa. They’re wonderful to me here at Haseya’s. It was a little overwhelming at first, but I’ve gotten used to it, and after many months, I’ve made good friends who take me out and play with me.
Here’s what you can tell possible adopters about me, Santa, that might help. I’m a happy girl and a very friendly one …I’m really silly and love to have fun! I need a grown-up family that thinks I will be so special they will play with me until I drop …I love chasing tennis balls….and I enjoy going on long walks too.
I really hope you can find a family for me, Santa. I would love to play fetch with you if you come to the shelter sometime, and I thank you so much for reading my letter.
Love, Laguna
Haseyas New Beginning Animal Rescue shared Laguna’s heartfelt letter on Facebook, which struck a chord with many people, prompting them to share the post and hope Santa would notice this plea from Rayne.
They All Deserve A Merry Christmas

Founded in 2018, Haseyas New Beginning Animal Rescue initially focused on saving equines before expanding their mission to all animals, with a special emphasis on dogs.
Since then, they have hosted numerous events aimed at raising awareness about various issues in the dog community and frequently share informative content on social media.
One of their recent initiatives on Facebook is a campaign called “Holiday Sleepovers,” focusing on their most overlooked dogs, including Laguna.
“We’re seeking families who can foster these dogs from 12/24 to 1/2, giving them a much-needed break from shelter life and creating memories that will help them find forever homes,” they stated.
As Christmas is a time for giving, we sincerely hope someone reading Laguna’s letter will make the effort to forward it to Santa Claus soon.
It would truly be wonderful if this holiday season, Laguna or any pup from the shelter could spend the festivities surrounded by a loving family.
