All Sweet Potato ever wanted was love, but instead, she faced heartless abandonment in a local park in Florida, leading to many nightmares. This tiny furry baby struggled with severe health challenges after being left alone.
Eventually captured by animal control, Sweet Potato was labeled “too broken” for intervention, and tragically scheduled for euthanasia due to her dire condition.
She Had A Series Of Health Issues

After her admission to Broward County Animal Services, Sweet Potato was a painful sight, barely surviving—she was emaciated and anemic. Given her gentle nature, it was evident that this little dog once had a home, making her situation more tragic. Unfortunately, due to the extent of her medical needs, the shelter determined they couldn’t afford the necessary treatment and scheduled her for euthanasia, extinguishing the hope for a better life.

That’s when Tri-County Animal Rescue stepped in. They were moved by her plight, realizing she was not only suffering from malnutrition but faced much graver issues. Sweet Potato was at death’s door, even before her scheduled euthanasia.
“She was rescued from the euthanasia list at Animal Control, where her severe medical needs exceeded their resources. She was emaciated, dehydrated, anemic, and suffering from a pneumothorax and a broken rib caused by trauma,” the rescue stated on Facebook.

The dedicated team immediately provided her with veterinary care. Her innocent eyes cried out for a second chance, and the rescue was determined not to let her down.
Sweet Potato Beats All The Odds

Sweet Potato’s resilience is truly remarkable. She displayed incredible strength during her recovery, which involved intensive medical care, X-rays, ultrasounds, anti-inflammatory medications, bloodwork, and a special diet to aid her healing. The staff ensured she received proper monitoring around the clock. At one point, she even spent 24 hours at the hospital director’s home since she was critically ill. Thanks to their dedication and Sweet Potato’s unwavering spirit, she pulled through.

Sweet Potato is now officially out of danger, though her healing journey continues. She is learning to trust and embrace life in ways she never could before.
“Day by day, she’s regaining her strength, her trust, and her joy. Her wagging tail and loving personality are proof that hope can triumph over hardship,” the rescue concluded. Once fully recovered, Sweet Potato will begin another crucial journey: finding her forever home—an adventure she’s eager to start as soon as possible!
Be well, sweet girl! You deserve the best life!
