Homeowners Stunned by Mysterious Noise from the Fireplace Make a Shocking Discovery

Date:

While the crackle of the fire fills the air when it burns, the fireplace usually sits in silence when it’s not in use.

However, one couple experienced an unusual event – they heard an odd noise coming from their fireplace even though there was no fire lit. Their initial surprise gave way to caution as they approached to investigate the source of the sound.

Leaning closer, they discovered an unexpected guest.

Just A Baby

Based on a Facebook post from WIRES Wildlife Rescue, the couple was astonished to discover a lizard in the upper part of the fireplace.

To make things even more interesting, it turned out to be a young goanna or lace monitor. According to A-Z Animals, these reptiles can grow to an impressive length of six feet, which could present quite a challenge.

Fortunately, this particular goanna wasn’t close to that size. Still, the homeowners opted to seek professional help to manage the situation.

WIRES Wildlife Rescue received a call, and one of their top volunteers, Inga, rushed to the scene, eager to help.

Upon arriving, Inga bravely reached into the fireplace and retrieved the wild creature. Everyone breathed a sigh of relief upon realizing that it was just a baby.

“I was initially cautious since it might have been a trapped snake,” the WIRES volunteer explained to The Dodo. “Once I realized it was a juvenile goanna, I understood it was safe to act. I felt sympathy for the little guy, as he must have been struggling to escape and likely hungry and thirsty.”

Being excellent climbers, this lace monitor likely ascended the house but was then drawn into the chimney, where it became trapped in the upper wall.

Thanks to Inga’s quick actions, however, he was now safe.

Back Where He Belongs

Inga was thrilled to find out that the lizard was in good health, requiring no extensive recovery.

She quickly placed him in a carrier and transported him to the WIRES facility. After a few days of evaluation and extra hydration, this little lizard was ready to embark on a new adventure.

He was released back into his natural environment, where he could finally flourish and grow, just as every living creature deserves.
