Elderly Dog Rescued Just in Time After Being Found Starving and Collapsed on Sidewalk

Date:

When bystanders spotted a dog lying motionless on a sidewalk in Brooklyn, their hearts sank, fearing the worst. The elderly canine appeared painfully thin, with her ribs clearly visible.

Relief washed over the onlookers when they discovered that the pup, later given the name Feisty, was still alive, igniting hope for her recovery.

A number of individuals quickly took to Facebook, sharing urgent requests for assistance, which eventually caught the attention of Second Chance Rescue from New York City. A compassionate bystander, along with rescue personnel, hurried the dog to an emergency clinic.

Upon Feisty’s arrival at the hospital, the veterinarians were heartbroken to see her in such dire condition. In addition to being dangerously underweight, her skin was infected and she had noticeable bald patches.

“She was infested with fleas and urine-soaked, with nails so overgrown they had sunk into her paw pads. However, the primary worry was the masses found on her body—whether they were cancerous or benign,” explained Rachel Larkin, the rescue’s social media director.

Immediately, she was treated with antibiotics, pain management, and fluids.

The hospital team instantly took a liking to Feisty. She was an endearing dog who had longed for love and attention. They showered her with affection, providing numerous kisses and cuddles. The senior dog was immensely grateful for the care she received.

When the rescue volunteers came to visit, Feisty greeted them with uncontainable joy, her tail wagging as she lavished them with kisses. The volunteers were thrilled to see her looking significantly better.

The Most Joyful News

Initially, there was concern that Feisty had cancer. The shelter sought a hospice placement, but fortunately, a loving family stepped up to adopt Feisty, eager to ensure her remaining days were filled with happiness.

As soon as Feisty settled into her new foster home, she captivated her new family. They experienced an immediate and deep connection with the affectionate pup.

Joy filled their hearts when the biopsy results confirmed she was cancer-free. This was the most incredible news they could have asked for.

No longer just a hospice case, Feisty transformed into a healthy dog in need of a forever home, and her foster family knew she was meant to be with them. They happily filled out the adoption paperwork.

They were immensely grateful and elated that this lovely pup would become a permanent part of their lives.

Now known as FeeFee, Feisty has completely embraced her new life.

She finally has a loving family who deeply treasures her. FeeFee has blossomed into the joyful dog she was always destined to be.

“She has started to bark and (politely) asks for cuddles, food, and attention… She LOVES meeting new people when out for walks,” Ursula Schmidt, FeeFee’s forever mom, shared with The Dodo.

I am overjoyed that FeeFee discovered a caring family who adores her. This wonderful dog truly deserved her fairy tale ending.

A heartfelt thank you to the Good Samaritan who rushed FeeFee to the hospital, and to all the compassionate souls who helped this sweet pup attain the love and joy she’d always longed for.
