Abandoned Dog Left at Shelter After Breeding Hoarding Finds a Fresh Start

Date:

All it takes is one person to completely transform a dog’s existence, and Poptart is lucky to have found two!

This sweet American Bulldog mix has faced extreme hardships. She was heartlessly abandoned on a rural road in Virginia after spending her entire life in a cage.

Upon reaching a local shelter, Poptart was unsure of how to be a dog. But soon, her life took an unexpected and joyous turn with Caitrin and Aj!

The Journey to a Forever Home

As stated by the shelter veterinarian, Poptart spent her days at a breeder in a small, dark cage, resting on a filthy floor. She entered Spotsylvania Animal Shelter in Fredericksburg, Virginia, in poor health and underweight.

From her condition, it was clear that Poptart had been repeatedly bred and had an amateur c-section performed on her before being abandoned in a remote area.

“Poptart came to us as a stray in 2018, underweight, unhealthy, and overused for breeding. The breeders most likely kept her in filthy conditions, attempted an unprofessional home c-section, and then discarded her by the roadside,” the rescue shared in a Facebook post.

She had a tough time in the shelter, prompting staff to move her to a foster home. After a prolonged period, Poptart finally experienced a kind and nurturing environment with her wonderful foster mom, Nathalie.

Despite her past trauma, this brave girl quickly began to blossom and learn what life truly meant.

A week laterthe real miracle occurred! Caitrin and Aj showed up as potential adopters, and before long, they became Poptart’s forever pawrents!

A Fresh Start

Initially, Poptart was bewildered by the idea of living in a comfy home. She appeared confused and carried a sad demeanor, unsure of her welcome until her owners enveloped her in unconditional love.

In just a matter of weeks, Poptart underwent a remarkable transformation and quickly assumed the role of the queen of the house.

She’s quite the little athlete, enjoying her time sprinting around the backyard with her canine sibling, Doug. Inside, her ultimate favorite pastime is taking cozy naps.
