Missouri Rescuer Goes Above and Beyond to Save a Frightened Puppy from Freezing Temperatures

Date:

Despite her extensive experience in rescue operations, Donna Lochmann remains steadfast in her mission to help animals in need, responding to every call she receives. This commitment intensifies during harsh weather conditions, particularly in the sweltering summer heat and freezing winters, where no one, especially vulnerable pups, should be left to endure the elements alone.

You Are Coming With Me

After a neighbor informed her about a tiny white pup struggling to survive in the cold, Donna sprang into action, eager to rescue the vulnerable animal. Little did she know that capturing this little angel would turn out to be an arduous task. For two long hours, she and her partner drove through the snowy neighborhood in pursuit of the elusive pup, who remained distrustful despite their efforts.

The breakthrough finally came when they managed to corner the pup on a porch, cutting off her escape routes. Even then, as Donna approached, the frightened pup growled fiercely, expressing her disdain for being captured. Fortunately, Donna was prepared; she took out some delectable treats, signaling to the pup that they meant no harm.

Finally Safe

With patience, Donna successfully scooped up the little troublemaker using her coat, making her way to the car. After weeks in the icy St. Louis weather, the pup was in dire condition: cold, wet, and tangled in mats. Fortunately, she was headed to the Stray Rescue of St. Louis shelter for a much-needed spa day.

After a refreshing bath and a necessary haircut, the pup, now named Joanie January, was transformed beyond recognition. Next on the agenda was to find her a loving foster home, which happened almost immediately.

Welcome Home

Ally Turner, a compassionate foster mom, welcomed Joanie January into her warm home. The two formed a connection instantly; it was love at first sight. In a Facebook post, Turner shared, “This girl is a bit shy/timid but is sooo sweet! She’s already my little shadow, wanting to be held and following me around. She’s doing some exploring around the apartment, and her introduction with Emmy went well! Emmy was excited to meet her and Joanie didn’t pay her any mind, haha.”

Finally, Joanie was safe and sound. Free from the struggles of life on the streets, she now enjoys a warm couch and the unconditional love of her new human. We can’t wait to witness the remarkable transformation that lies ahead for her!
