One of the biggest challenges faced by abandoned or stray dogs living on the streets is locating shelter.
No matter if it is cold or hot outside, a secure shelter is vital for these pups as it not only protects them from the elements but also offers them a space where they can feel safe – a place to call their own.
Rescuers have discovered dogs hiding in various locations, from rundown buildings to cardboard boxes; however, the pups you are about to meet found a rather unique temporary refuge.
Back To School

When Suzette Hall, the founder of Logan’s Legacy 29 in California, heard from a friend who worked at a local school, her heart sank.
Her friend informed her that two severely matted dogs had found refuge on the school grounds as they had nowhere else to turn.
“She and a few other teachers discovered them huddled together… They were frightened,” Hall recounted to The Dodo.
Upon receiving photos of the two pups, Hall was overcome with emotion – the way the two white dogs looked up at the school staff seeking help was truly devastating.
Hall promptly agreed to rescue the two dogs. Sadly, on her way to the school, her car broke down, delaying her arrival for several hours.
However, while waiting for Hall, the school staff took it upon themselves to move the frightened dogs to a safer location. A courageous janitor carefully relocated the pups to an empty bathroom, while teachers kept watch over them, attempting to feed them.
“[One teacher] shared her lunch with them, but there was broccoli everywhere. Apparently, they’re not fond of broccoli,” Hall shared in a Facebook post.
When Hall finally arrived at the Californian school, she was taken aback by the physical condition of the dogs.
“I was honestly shocked when I saw them. They had dreadlocks and were incredibly dirty… they resembled two little [ragamuffins],” Hall remarked.

New Chapter
Despite being initially frightened by their rescuers, the sweet pups, later named Maggie and Mack, eventually realized that help had arrived.
After some effort to coax them into the carrier, Hall managed to load them into her van and rushed them directly to Camino Pet Hospital.
“The sweet babies were so exhausted, they fell asleep in my lap. They could finally rest… they understood they were safe,” Hall shared.

Upon arrival, both Maggie and Mack received a comprehensive medical assessment and a desperately needed haircut.
The veterinary staff took their time to carefully shave the matted fur from their bodies, and they were delighted to witness the pups’ happiness after shedding their heavy coats.
At the end of a long day of rescue operations, both the pups and the humans could finally unwind.

When the results of their evaluations came in, everyone was relieved to discover that both pups were in excellent health.
Maggie and Mack received plenty of pets, cuddles, and tasty treats as rewards for their bravery.
Final Word
The pups are currently in their foster home, where they are gradually learning what it means to be a part of a family.
Fortunately, in such a nurturing environment, they are adapting quickly and growing more comfortable each day.

Hall is working diligently to find these remarkable pups a forever home as soon as possible, but for now, she and her team are devoted to showering Maggie and Mack with love and affection, wishing to help them completely forget their difficult past.
“Layer by layer, we will help them move on from the past. But now they are finally safe,” Hall concluded.
