On a chilly afternoon in Albany, New York, a Good Samaritan noticed something peculiar.
Next to a filthy garbage can, a zipped-up duffel bag revealed two curious eyes peering out. Upon closer investigation, the Samaritan discovered a small brown and black tiger cat inside.
Unfortunate Case

Immediately, they contacted animal control, who promptly rescued the cat and transferred it to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society (MHHS), New York’s oldest and largest animal protection organization.
Upon arrival, the cat, later affectionately named Newt, was welcomed by Kara Murry, the MHHS intake coordinator. She was astonished by how sweet and friendly Newt was.
“How could anyone throw you in the trash? You’re so sweet and cuddly!” Kara remarked, recalling how Newt purred and nuzzled against them, almost expressing gratitude for her rescue.

New Chance
The immediate priority for Newt was a thorough medical checkup along with food and water. In her first hours at the shelter, Newt charmed everyone she met.
“When I met her two days after her arrival, she came right up for pets and love. [She] was very sweet and loved playing with pipe cleaners,” shared Heather Ellis, a veterinary assistant at MHHS.

Due to her irresistible charm, Newt’s stay at the humane society was brief; she quickly found a warm and loving forever home with a man seeking a sweet companion. It truly was love at first sight.

Forever Home
Thanks to her new loving father who recognized her worth, Newt no longer has to fear being abandoned again.

“As they say, one person’s trash is another person’s treasure. This sweet girl is a wonderful treasure for her new dad,” shared Marguerite Pearson, marketing director at Mohawk Hudson.
Newt, may your life be filled with joy, love, and endless cuddles. You truly deserve it!
