California Rescuers Stunned by Discovery of Mother Dog and Her 10 Puppies in Desert

Date:

Throughout my years of reading and writing about dogs, I’ve encountered many stray pups who seek isolation from humans, typically due to past neglect or abuse. This leads them to believe it’s safer to stay away from people. Rarely, we find cases of dogs who haven’t been abused but still end up in similar situations, often due to abandonment.

One such example involved a mama dog living in a California desert until she was discovered by some compassionate individuals who intervened.

How Did She Get Here?!

While filming a video in the desert, a group of friends were taken by surprise when they spotted a dog wandering around their set in such a desolate location. They were unsure of how the dog had appeared or what to do now that she was with them, but as they approached, they found her to be outgoing and sweet, which made them believe she was not your typical stray dog. However, they were uncertain about her past as they began to hear faint cries nearby, indicating that she had recently given birth.

Realizing the urgency of the situation, the group contacted Atlas Animal Rescue. Rescuer Emily Everett-Nelson promptly arrived, and after asking about the dog, she ventured behind an old ramp. To her astonishment, she found the mama dog along with 10 recently born puppies, all in need of assistance.

Emily managed to place the puppies into a kennel and secured them before transporting them to her vehicle. Bringing the mama dog, now named Pretzel, into the car, Emily noticed that Pretzel was struggling to feed her puppies due to malnourishment, likely from not having eaten for some time. However, she finally received a chance to recover and nurture her puppies.

The Entire Family Is Doing Well

In a fortunate turn of events, Emily had a friend named Louise who also had a mother dog that had given birth to 10 puppies. Emily brought the families together, and they now live harmoniously in a nurturing home. After eight weeks of dedicated care, the entire family is healthy and ready for adoption.

Despite the puppies being quickly adopted, Pretzel received the most applications and has found her forever home. Thanks to the compassion of strangers and dedicated rescuers, this lovely family is now enjoying the lives they’ve always deserved.
