Nothing breaks a dog’s heart more than feeling unwanted. Imagine having a loving home for your entire life only for it to end abruptly. Suddenly, your days are spent navigating through a nightmare on the cold, unfamiliar asphalt, marking the beginning of a stray life.
This was the reality for Lucy, a senior Labrador who avoided both traps and humans, heartbroken yet scared, until a kind soul decided to take action.
Scared And Heartbroken
On one occasion, Lane Bounds, a woman from Mississippi, noticed Lucy in a parking lot while leaving the gym. She called out to her, but Lucy ran away. A few days later, during another encounter at a local bank, Lucy didn’t trust Lane enough to approach.
“Leaving the gym, I noticed an old stray in the parking lot. Days later, I found her sleeping in the bushes at a local bank,” Lane wrote in the post called “Lucy’s story.”
Determined to help the lost dog, Lane posted inquiries about Lucy and set humane traps with food nearby, but Lucy was evasive, proving clever and skittish.
“I made posts looking for her owners with no luck. She outsmarted all traps, but I just knew I had to help her,” Lane noted in the post called “Lucy’s story.”
Then, Lane came up with a new strategy; one afternoon, she brought her own dog, Delta, hoping it would lure Lucy in. Thankfully, it succeeded!
Eventually, Lucy approached Lane’s car to interact with Delta. Within days, she grew comfortable enough to allow Lane to feed her by hand and even hopped into her car. The rest became history!
Lane brought Lucy home, where her family showered the dog with love. At the vet checkup, Lane discovered that Lucy had a previous family.
Lucy’s former family did reach out but declined to take her back, which ignited Lane’s desire to keep her. Thus, she fostered Lucy, ensuring she had everything necessary for a healthy recovery.
Incredible Transformation
It was heartwarming to witness Lucy’s transformation over a short period. She quickly warmed up to Lane’s family, becoming their cherished companion.
Lucy developed a fondness for her parents, Delta, and her human siblings, enjoying cozy naps, cuddles, and outdoor adventures. It was clear she was meant to be a “foster fail!”
“After over a week of trying to trap and rescue this girl, and two months fostering her with potential offers for her betterment, I just couldn’t envision Lady Lucy being anywhere else but here with us,” Lane expressed on Facebook.
Today, Lucy is happier than ever. Lane and her family continue working towards helping her heal from past trauma, while Lucy responds with her affectionate nature.
“Every day we try to give her a life filled with love to counter the pain of her past. I can’t believe how we ever lived without each other,” Lucy’s mom shared.
After numerous nights spent in distress and insecurity on the streets of Mississippi, Lucy finally found the perfect place she can call home!
