The health and well-being of their dog is a primary concern for every loving owner. A family from Los Angeles was understandably terrified when Luna, their seven-month-old Bernese Mountain puppy, suddenly fell ill. Noticing Luna vomiting and having a firm, swollen stomach, they rushed her to the vet at the Corona Animal Emergency Center, hoping for a favorable outcome.
The Whole Hospital Was Shocked
Upon arrival, the vet examined Luna and, after conducting an X-ray, discovered that Luna’s belly was crammed with objects, causing an intestinal blockage.
The puppy underwent surgery, where the vet removed all foreign objects from Luna’s stomach, including a onesie obstructing her intestine. The hospital staff were astounded by the unusual findings. “What we found was jaw-dropping: 24 socks, one scrunchie, two hair ties, one shoe insert, one small onesie (from her intestines!), and miscellaneous cloth pieces,” the hospital reported on Instagram.
The hospital shared X-ray images of Luna’s stomach before surgery, along with a photo of the vet displaying the twenty-four objects extracted. Thankfully, Luna’s life was saved, and she has since returned to her joyous self.
A Lesson Learned And A Cautionary Tale
Luna is in recovery and happily wagging her tail again, although she’s currently wearing a cone to prevent her from licking her stitches. The Corona Animal Emergency Center encourages pet owners to stay vigilant and ensure their pets do not consume harmful items.
“Luna’s story is a reminder to trust your instincts. If you notice vomiting, lethargy, or a firm abdomen, don’t wait — act fast and contact your vet. Prevention is key, but we’re here for emergencies 24/7,” the clinic urged.
Her family is relieved that Luna is now completely healthy. This experience served as a wake-up call, prompting them to take proactive measures to prevent Luna from swallowing objects again. They are currently developing a solid prevention strategy that includes creating a puppy-friendly environment and supervising her playtime. Furthermore, Luna has begun working with a trainer to adopt good habits. I’m confident that Luna will soon forget this ordeal and continue enjoying life with her family.
