While being a rescuer is often seen as one of the most fulfilling roles, it also comes with its share of heartbreaks. A woman named Kate has devoted her life to opening her heart and home to animals in need, fostering countless furry companions over the years, but none have impacted her quite like Nacho.
The Best Foster Ever
When the Nebraska Humane Society reached out about a pup in desperate need of a warm home, Kate welcomed him with open arms. For three wonderful months, Nacho became Kate’s constant companion, and they filled their days with adventure and joy. Yet, when a family expressed interest in adopting Nacho, Kate felt a bittersweet pang. While she was thrilled for him to find a permanent home, the thought of saying goodbye brought her sorrow.
Understanding that fostering meant letting go, Kate eventually relocated to Ohio, but she never anticipated that fate would reunite her with Nacho. While browsing the Nebraska Humane Society’s website, she recognized a familiar face – it was Nacho! “My friend notified me he was found as a stray. Previous owners were contacted, but they didn’t reclaim him, so I adopted him,” Kate told Geobeats.
It was no surprise that Nacho adapted back into Kate’s life effortlessly; their bond felt as timeless as ever. The joy of seeing Nacho and her current dog play together filled her heart with happiness. “The first night he got home, he felt like he was home, and I knew this was where he belonged,” she shared.
“Nacho needs to be near a human. He loves to cuddle when I watch TV; he’s half on my lap while I work. He refuses to sleep anywhere but my bed and takes it over. We’re both healing each other,” she says, reflecting on their beautiful journey. And so, the rest is history. This incredible duo is beyond grateful for their second chance at love and life together!
