After spending time at the Texas shelter, Brisby was fostered in Florida for about a month before being transferred to another foster home in Seattle due to unforeseen circumstances. This transition marked the beginning of Brisby’s adoption challenges. He exhibited significant psychological issues, becoming apparent when he snapped at someone trying to take something from his mouth, as noted by Lauren in a conversation with GeoBeats Animals.
This was a significant hurdle as it posed a risk that Brisby would never find a loving home due to people’s fears. To help with his issues, he was sent to a training facility in California, where Diana dedicated herself to rehabilitating him. They shared his story widely, hoping to attract potential adopters, and it was during this time that a compassionate woman named Lauren decided to extend her help.
Brisby Is In His New Home
After applying for adoption, Lauren was swiftly approved, but since she resided in Northern Virginia, she needed to travel to California to bring Brisby home. Once everything was settled, Brisby’s life took a wonderful turn, as Lauren mentioned: “When we first got him, my husband and I took it really slow.” When they tossed a ball for him, his joy was palpable, showcasing how much he craved companionship.
Lauren observed that Brisby has unusual paws with nails that grow rapidly, making him uneasy about having them touched. “During vet visits for nail trims, he requires full sedation, which occurs every month,” she explained. She also noted that he flinches when objects are thrown nearby, even when they are toys, leaving them puzzled about the cause.
Brisby Is Making A Huge Change
While kids adore Brisby, Lauren must monitor interactions due to his behavioral challenges. Despite this, he generally gets along well with people and other dogs. His family is dedicated to ensuring his well-being, addressing his severe separation anxiety with medication as they work to help him adjust to life without his previous owners.
