Rescuers Stunned to Discover Dog Left Behind in Home After Owners’ Eviction

Date:

To dogs, their humans represent home. Losing them means losing not just a place, but everything they hold dear.

A poignant tale of an abandoned dog comes from New Jersey.

Meet Reeses Puppycups, an eight-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier who faced a difficult situation when her owners were evicted. A week after they vacated their home (and left their dog behind), Reeses was discovered alone in a bedroom, surrounded by nothing but painful memories.

She remained hopeful at the property, waiting for her cherished humans to return… which tragically never happened.

Hungry and Dehydrated, Yearning for Affection

During her week of neglect, Reeses went without food and care, becoming extremely emaciated and frail by the time officers from The South Toms River Police Department found her.

Thanks to the compassionate staff at Associated Humane Popcorn Park Shelter in Forked River, New Jersey, she was relocated to a temporary shelter where she could start anew!

“Her owners left her behind when they were evicted. When Reeses was located, she was emaciated, dehydrated, and in dire need of assistance,” the shelter detailed in a Facebook post.

A veterinary examination revealed that Reeses required more than just love and care; she had a couple of tumors needing surgical removal.

This sweet girl underwent surgery and received additional medical attention she desperately needed. After such a horrific past, she finally experienced the affection she was deprived of before.

She’s The Complete Package

Reeses began to flourish with her caretakers; she transformed into a whole new dog! Shelter volunteers noted her friendliness as she charmed everyone she encountered.

“Reeses doesn’t get along with other animals, but she adores people. She’s exceptionally well-behaved, affectionate, friendly, and an overall fantastic girl. While she enjoys running and playful moments, she also has a calm side,” the rescue organization shared in their update.

In spite of her turbulent past, Reeses’s enthusiasm for life shines brighter than ever. She has an endless capacity for love, and she is bound to bring joy to a fortunate family!

Her dark days are now in the rearview mirror. Reeses is feeling much better, and even though she requires some ongoing medical assistance, she is poised for a fresh start.

When the moment arrives, there’s no denying that Reeses will bring joy to the lives of her future humans. With her entertaining disposition and wonderful spirit, she is perfect for active families eager for daily adventures.

Given her vivacious nature, Reeses seeks a home with adults and is hopeful to find her perfect match soon.

Wishing you all the best, sweet girl! You truly deserve love once more.
