Everyone knows how long 12 years can feel, especially in dog years! Over such a long time, our furry companions may forget various things, yet they always remember they have a loving human who will care for and protect them. That’s why losing that connection can be so devastating for them.
People surrender their dogs for numerous reasons, but we must recognize the emotional impact it has on these pups as they come to realize that their best friend will no longer be there to provide comfort and treats. Tito, an endearing senior dog from Texas, knows this experience all too well.
Why Did You Leave Me?
As Tito approached his 13th birthday, he was unaware of the unfortunate event that awaited him. His family, preparing for a significant move, decided they didn’t have space for him anymore, which led to him being surrendered at the very shelter from where he was originally adopted.
“When Tito first arrived at the shelter, he was very stressed, constantly shaking and hesitant to be touched. To help him feel safe, I started bringing him out of his kennel to spend time in reception with my coworkers and me. He’s been doing great up in reception. He seems to be more social and less scared,” Aileen Betancourt, an adoption specialist, explained to Newsweek.
Spending time with humans at the shelter allowed Tito to rediscover the joy of love and attention. “Tito is a sweet boy. He enjoys his naps and walks,” Betancourt added.
The Sweetest Reunion
The turning point for Tito came when he reunited with his best friend, Teddy—a four-year-old cat also surrendered by his old family. The moment Tito recognized Teddy, his excitement was palpable; his entire body joined in on the tail wagging!
“Right away, Tito’s tail started wagging, and he got so excited, even jumping around. As for Teddy, we couldn’t place him on the floor since we didn’t want him to get startled, but he felt comfortable around Tito, something not seen with other cats,” Betancourt noted.
Their emotional reunion brought both the shelter staff and TikTok viewers to tears, as everyone wanted to see these two pals happy once again. The dedicated team at the Texas shelter quickly began searching for potential adopters.
They featured Tito on their social media, hoping to attract a loving human who would invite him into their forever home. Fortunately, just a couple of days later, they received an inquiry that Tito was the perfect match for someone! That’s how this delightful boy began his journey toward a new family, ready to leave his painful past behind and embrace the bright future ahead of him.
