Puppies rely on their mother’s love and care to grow into happy dogs. Unfortunately, some do not have the opportunity to enjoy their early days with their mother. Koby, a Pit Bull mix, represents one such unfortunate case; he was abandoned by breeders who discarded him and his siblings at a South Carolina shelter because they weren’t purebred. While Koby and his siblings longed for the warmth of their mother, they were left huddled in a cardboard box, hoping for compassion.
A New Life
The shelter staff quickly took in the puppies, and due to being in a kill shelter, Ollie’s Angels Animal Rescue from New York stepped in to save the siblings. In 2021, a newlywed couple, Steven and Jessica, visited the rescue looking to adopt and found Koby, the adorable tan Pit Bull puppy. The instant they held him, Koby formed a strong bond with them.
“The first time we got to hold him, he just sunk in our arms,” Steven shared with GeoBeats Animals. They took Koby home that same day.
Koby took some time to adjust to his new surroundings, struggling to sleep during the first few nights. To help him relax, his parents gifted him a stuffed animal that felt warm and had a heartbeat, which brought him comfort. This loving puppy enjoys cuddling and always seeks to sit in his dad’s lap.
Before Koby, Steven did not realize how much Pit Bulls loved to cuddle with their humans. With all the love Steven and Jessica have shared, Koby has grown very attached to them, and he often feels sad when he cannot be with them.
Koby brings immense joy to his owners, who can read his emotions through his expressive eyes. Jessica commented, “It’s like looking at a person. You know exactly what he’s feeling just based on his eyes alone,” as noted in her interview with GeoBeats Animals.
Koby Adores His Parents
Both Steven and Jessica observed how Koby’s early separation from his mother affected him; he craved her warmth and affection.Koby, in return, gives his unconditional love to his human parents and takes on the protective role, especially when Jessica was pregnant, always by her side and resting his head on her bump. While Koby loves his mom dearly, he has a special bond with his dad, often perched on the couch waiting for Steven to come home from work.
When Steven arrives, Koby eagerly runs to greet him with fervent hugs and kisses. Steven notes that Koby is like a son to him, cherishing the joy he brings to their lives. Both he and Jessica can hardly imagine life without their beloved boy.
“He’s become such an important part of my every day. If I have a tough day at work, it’s nice coming home to a beautiful wife, but it’s also nice coming home to somebody that you know is guaranteed gonna greet you with excitement and hugs and kisses,” Steven shared.
Koby also shares updates about his life on Instagram, where he proudly shows off his role as a big brother to his human sister, watching over her and showering her with love.
