Watch This Heartbroken Dog’s Touching Reaction to a Heartfelt Hug from One of His California Rescuers

Date:

Dogs thrive in warm homes surrounded by loving families, as their lives revolve around their favorite humans. Unfortunately, not all dogs are as fortunate. Many find themselves confined in dark, cold kennels due to diminishing shelter capacities. Some have never known a life outside a shelter, while others experience heartbreak when they suddenly lose their homes.

This was the unfortunate fate of one dog, Tokyo, a three-year-old Pit Bull mix, who was surrendered to a rescue center in Pasadena, California, after her owners divorced and could no longer care for her. The moment was deeply saddening. According to the rescue organization, although surrendering was deemed the right choice, “In a world where many people surrender their pets to shelters or dump them on the streets,” it was still an incredibly heartbreaking experience.

Broken Heart

In a distressing video shared by the rescue, Tokyo’s saddened eyes convey her despair as she comprehends that her family will not return. The woman who comforted her noted that Tokyo sought solace in her arms for days and cried intensely when she left—a testament to the deep sorrow she felt.

Happiest Update

After enduring a period of sorrow, Tokyo began to heal thanks to the immense love provided by Maria and the dedicated staff at the rescue. Although still grieving her previous family, she gradually started to open up and showed nurturing behavior, especially towards younger puppies.

This touching story gained significant traction, inspiring many to consider adopting a dog like Tokyo. After much interest but no perfect match, a breakthrough came three months later.

“Tokyo has been adopted for two weeks and is living her best life!!!!” the rescue organization shared in their recent Instagram post. “When Jamie’s application came in, we knew the match was meant to be!” Now, she resides in Las Vegas, Nevada, with her new owner, who promises never to abandon her like the others did.

“What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, and Tokyo is definitely staying in Vegas. 🩷”
