Meet Halo, a frail little girl discovered in the woods of Mississippi, curled up and fighting for her life. Rescuers were alerted to the presence of a vicious Pitbull in the area but were heartbroken to find Halo in such a dire state. She was not vicious at all; instead, she was blind, neglected, and emaciated to the point of near death. It was clear that without their intervention, she wouldn’t have survived much longer.

Stacey and her husband, Mike, are significant contributors to the rescue community in Mississippi.
If you’ve adopted a rescue dog from the Lucky Dog Refuge shelter in Stamford, Connecticut, chances are Stacey played a vital role in giving them a second chance, and Halo was one of those many dogs.
When they found Halo, she was a mere shadow of herself, literally a skeleton—just skin and bones. With the help of some enticing food, Stacey and Mike managed to coax her out of the woods, but her condition was alarming, indicating she had likely been deprived of basic needs such as food and shelter for weeks or even months.
“Her ears were cut with a pair of scissors, and she was most likely used for breeding. One eye is injured and damaged, the other is blind probably from an eye disease that should have been treated,” Stacey Frazier wrote in her Facebook post.
It’s heartbreaking to imagine the suffering this dog endured. Fortunately, she is now in loving hands.
The Road To Recovery
They named her Halo, unsure if she would survive, but thankfully, she defied the odds. Stacey took her home, beginning treatment with antibiotics and proper nutrition. Despite some challenging moments where her recovery seemed uncertain, she proved to be a true fighter.
“We knew her sight was impaired, but we didn’t know she was fully blind until the doctor confirmed it. She can see shadows, but she walks right into obstacles, like a telephone pole,” Jessica from Lucky Dog Refuge shared with The Dodo.
With Stacey, Halo finally learned what it meant to be loved. For the first time in her life, she experienced genuine kindness from a human, making her incredibly happy. After months of recovery, it was time for her journey to continue at the rescue in Connecticut.
Halo Found A Forever Home
When Halo arrived at the rescue, she was a completely transformed dog, bursting with happiness. The staff quickly discovered her love for ice cream, and she expresses her gratitude daily. Jessica shared, “She lets us know every day that she’s grateful for everything that she has now. She’s just an angel.” However, one crucial element was still missing—a loving forever home.
Then came the joyous news—Halo found her perfect forever home and is flourishing there! Even better, her new pawrents decided to adopt Halo’s best friend, Layne, ensuring the two of them continue to share their lives together.
