In this touching story, we explore a particular dog that has faced numerous challenges and an unexpected event that took everyone by surprise.
A New Foster Family
Initially, when she agreed to foster a dog, Kaitlin Devoto had no prior experience. She admitted to The Dodo: I didn’t know the gender or age. The first time we knew what she looked like was when she arrived in Cincinnati when I picked her up. At the pickup center in New York, she encountered a stunning red poodle but suspected the dog might be lactating due to a recent litter. Devoto explained that it’s common to receive mothers from puppy mills who continue to lactate until their puppies are weaned.
Furthermore, the dog appeared to have been starving for quite some time, but Devoto had a plan to provide her with a nourishing diet. With great care, she brought the poodle home.
Adorable Little Surprise
Just four days after bringing the dog home, Devoto woke to an unexpected surprise: a tiny puppy nestled in the dog bed. Unbeknownst to her, the dog had given birth during the night. She quickly checked for any additional puppies but found only the one. Knowing the importance of keeping the mother and her baby comfortable, Devoto arranged soft blankets for them. When she first saw the puppy, named Chicky Nug for his resemblance to a chicken nugget, she also needed to choose a fitting name for the mother. Thus, the mother was affectionately dubbed Mickey D.
An Exciting New Future
As time has passed, the once newborn puppy has grown into a lively little companion. Devoto shared that he enjoys running around, playing with toys, and even engaging in playful toe-biting antics. Meanwhile, Mickey has also become more sociable and energetic, shedding her initial shyness. Currently, this adorable dog family continues to thrive under Devoto’s care as they prepare for their new forever homes through a standard adoption process facilitated by Louie’s Legacy Animal Rescue in New York. While it’s yet to be confirmed if they have found their new families, it’s certain that someone will be eager to adopt these delightful dogs.
