Conversely, there are individuals lacking compassion, capable of hurting defenseless animals without a second thought.
Tragically, this sweet dog fell victim to such cruelty when he was shot and then callously discarded on the roadside.
He lay there, howling in pain for a protracted period, yet no one came to his aid until a compassionate rescuer arrived just in time.
She Was Appalled
Upon finding the dog nestled in the grass, she was shocked to see the extent of his injuries. He was unable to move.
After a thorough inspection, the rescuer discovered that the dog’s spinal cord had been injured and his chances of moving normally again were exceedingly slim.
This revelation was heart-wrenching, and I struggle to grasp how someone could inflict such suffering on such a gentle soul. He was utterly undeserving of this fate.
When the rescuer looked at him, he appeared so peaceful, as if he sensed her intention to help.
Although he was still terrified, the rescuer had to rush him to a veterinary clinic without delay. The vets received him right away.
He underwent surgery to extricate the bullet embedded in his flesh. Thankfully, the procedure was successful, and he was on the road to recovery.
However, the devastating news revealed that he might never regain full mobility. The likelihood of his recovery stood at a mere 2%.
Though disheartening, his rescuer was unwavering in her resolve to assist him in any way possible. The eight-month-old pup has started engaging in walking exercises.
He Is Making Amazing Progress
They are working on helping him stand on his back legs, experimenting to see what might happen. His name is Richard.
While it was nearly inevitable that he would recover, the dog remained anxious and fearful due to the trauma from his shooting.
His rescuers and veterinary team are always present to support him, providing ample affection to help him overcome his distrust of humans.
Every day, he diligently practices and strives for recovery. He has managed to stand on his feet for a few minutes, showing remarkable advancement.
They are experimenting with water therapy to see if it can enhance his leg strength and improve his balance.
He has made extraordinary strides and has shown considerable recovery over the last 250 days. While he still can’t walk on all fours, everyone is immensely proud of his phenomenal improvement.
Richard has developed a fondness for being around people and is even making new friends among the other dogs at the shelter.
His life has transformed so remarkably, and it is heartwarming to witness. I am immensely grateful that his compassionate rescuers have given him this opportunity to reclaim a normal life.
While the status of his potential adoption remains uncertain as of now, I firmly believe that his rescuers will continue to support him no matter what happens.
