Oklahoma Shelter Dog’s Heartache After Losing Her Brother to Adoption, Leaving Her Alone in the Kennel

Date:

December brings a touch of magic, and Bonnie, if she could speak, would undeniably agree!

This adorable street girl experienced a turbulent end to 2023 when she was found wandering the streets of Oklahoma City alongside her best friend, Clyde. The pair had never known life apart, spending every moment together and remaining loyal to each other even at the shelter—until they faced the heartbreaking moment of separation.

The Best Buds In The World

The bond between street dogs is truly remarkable. Despite the typical independence seen in rescued dogs, Bonnie and Clyde defied expectations; upon their rescue by the compassionate team at Stillwater Animal Welfare, they insisted on staying together. Their loyalty and love for one another captured the hearts of the staff, who were thrilled to have them as a inseparable pair.

Bonnie and Clyde’s history is quite unclear; they were found in poor conditions on the streets, both suffering from heartworms and needing extensive veterinary care. Fortunately, this bonded duo responded remarkably well to treatments, quickly emerging from their shells as they transformed into affectionate “shelter lovebugs,” expressing their gratitude through endless kisses and cuddles for their newfound chance at life.

Bonnie thrived during her first month at the shelter, with her team noting on Facebook, “Bonnie came to us as a stray with her brother and was never claimed…She is about 45 pounds and heartworm positive. So far, she is good with other dogs and loves food.” Just as she began to embrace her new surroundings, Clyde was adopted by a loving family, leaving Bonnie heartbroken and lost without him. She lay in her kennel, longing for her brother’s return, as the team shared, “Bonnie is all alone since her brother got adopted, and she definitely misses having a sibling to cuddle with.”

Happily Ever After

Bonnie faced a challenge adapting to life without her brother, feeling lost and unsure of how to proceed. However, the magic of December brought a turn of fate when a kind woman named Brayden Routh visited the shelter, seeking to adopt Bonnie. Their instant bond was undeniable, as if Bonnie had been waiting for her new mom to arrive. Soon enough, they left together for a brighter future!

Now, Bonnie has found a loving family and cozy home where she can thrive, even gaining a big sister—a Blue Heeler named Tally. Within just a few days, Bonnie’s life transformed for the better as she blossomed into a joyful pup eager for new adventures, with Tally by her side.

The first days with her new family were filled with activity as Bonnie made numerous new friends and quickly became the heart of the household. Her true spirit emerged after such a long time, bringing immense joy to her mom. “She’s in great hands! Tuckered out from a big day of making new friends,” her new mom shared on Facebook. Once a heartbroken pup struggling to move on, Bonnie now thrives in her joyful new life!
